Blood Fire Death
Bathory Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Deaths star on horizon
Lightning and rain
Black winds and thunder
The skyline is in flames

Written in the red mist
The sign of the one
Who rides deaths cold wind
And walks disguised among

All you vagrant souls
Of profane disbeliefs
False prophets and deceivers
Shall swing from the trees

Soon the dawn shall arise
For all the oppressed to arm
A chariot of thunder shall be seen
And bronze horns shall sound the alarm

Fists will raise like hammers
To a cloudy black sky
Bonds and chains fall to the ground

Children of all slaves
Stand united and proud
All people of bondage shall triumph
And live by the sign of

Blood, fire, death

The moment is chosen
The battlefield is bare
Take now thy stand people
The true ones don't fear

Now choose your weapons
And fall in the line
Choose well your colors
And follow the sign

Blood for all tears shed
And fire for hate
Death for what shall become
All false ones fate

The standard bearer is chosen
And the day has just begun
Shadows growing long by the rising
Of the awakening sun

Fists raise like hammers
To a clear sunny sky
Bonds and chains fallen to the ground

Children of all slaves
Now united and proud
All people of bondage now triumph
And live by the sign of

Blood, fire, death

Children of all slaves
Unite be proud
Rise out of darkness and pain

A chariot of thunder and gold
Will come loud
And a warrior of thunder and rain

With hair as white as snow
Hammer of steel
To set you free of your chains

And to lead you all

Where horses run free
And the souls of the ancient ones reign

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bathory's song Blood Fire Death describe an apocalyptic scene where death, lightning, rain, black winds, and thunder have taken over the skyline in flames. The verses allude to a deity, "the sign of the one," who rides "deaths cold wind" and walks "disguised among" them. The lyrics then encourage "all you vagrant souls of profane disbeliefs, false prophets and deceivers" to prepare for their judgment, as they are doomed to "swing from the trees." However, the song's theme eventually turns into a "moment" of "blood, fire, death" in which those who have been oppressed shall rise up and triumph over all those who have enslaved them.

The third stanza encourages the oppressed to "arm" themselves and prepare for the battle that will set them free. The standard bearer is chosen, and the day has just begun, and a chariot of thunder and gold will come loud, and a warrior of thunder and rain will set them free from their chains. The final section of the song encourages all children of slaves to unite, be proud, rise out of darkness and pain, and follow the warrior of thunder and rain where horses run free, and the souls of ancient ones reign.

@FlutterWind my point is, there are some who don't give Venom any credit, but seem to think that Bathory are the pioneers,
the style was started by Venom and Bathory brought the vocal sound,
That is the only difference to Venom the fact that the vocals are unintelligible.
But the lyrics, speed and heaviness are the same,
To me black metal is the lyrics, not the music, as the songs are about the darker side.
I'm a fan of Bathory, as I have their first 3 albums from back in the day,
So I'm not criticising Bathory, I just think that Venom deserves more credit.
Too long fans have put down Venom yet other bands are considered gods,
Yet look at the early videos of Metallica and Slayer and they are wearing Venom tshirts,
It the revisionists who I have the problem with.
Hope you get my point, that all metal is great from the eighties,
Motley crue and all that shite don't count as that was just rock, not metal.
Metal needs to remember bands from the 80s who took a lot of flack from the mainstream.
So Venom and Bathory are not different bands they are unique,
So Hail Black Metal.

Orgy of silence
Conspiracy of peace
Only the sound
Of the cold northern breeze
Twinsun sink fading
Behind the black lake
Asleep is the mountains
Yet the night is awake
Strange is the night
Now black stars rise
And many moons circle
Through silent the night

Along the black mountainside scattered
By the campfires awaiting the dawn
Two times a hundred men in battles
Tried by the steel in the arrow, axe and the sword

By battle worn hunger torn awaitening
For the sun to break through the cold haze
And for the banners of Ebal to appear
On the hill in the sun's first warm rays

The elder among the men looked deep into
The fire and spoke loud with pride
Tomorrow is a fine day to die

Now the morning advance from far east
Now the sun breaks through dustclouds and haze
Now a forest of spears appears on the hill
And steel shines bright in the sun's first rays

Die
Die
Die
Die
