Control
Battle Tapes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hopped in the saddle of a horse with no name
Took me to the river and let me drown in the wake
Of you
Of only you

Prayed to the heavens for a way to sustain
Hell bent turning holy water into champagne
For you
For only you

Give it some time
Take all my money
It won't be long
Until everybody's losing control
Sweeter than honey
Somehow
Everybody's losing, everybody's losing control

Feels like I'm cutting up lines drawn in the sand
Freebasing motor oil with the blood on my hands
From you
From only you

Infatuated with the sorted details
Help my aching body coming off of the rails
For you
For only you

Give it some time
Take all my money
It won't be long
Until everybody's losing control
Sweeter than honey
Somehow
Everybody's losing, everybody's losing control

Give it some time
Take all my money
It won't be long
Until everybody's losing control
Sweeter than honey
Somehow
Everybody's losing, everybody's losing control

Give it some time
Take all my money
It won't be long
Until everybody's losing control
Sweeter than honey
Somehow
Everybody's losing, everybody's losing control

Give it some time
Take all my money
It won't be long
Until everybody's losing control
Sweeter than honey

Somehow
Everybody's losing, everybody's losing control

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Battle Tapes’ “Control” can be interpreted as being about a toxic and obsessive relationship. The singer is describing how he is willing to do anything to keep his lover happy, including praying for her, turning holy water into champagne, and losing himself in her. However, he is also aware of the danger he is putting himself in, as he compares his actions to cutting lines drawn in the sand and freebasing motor oil with blood on his hands. The repeated chorus emphasizes the idea that eventually, everyone will lose control and succumb to their desires, even if it leads to destruction.

The opening line, “Hopped in the saddle of a horse with no name,” is a reference to America’s song “A Horse with No Name.” The repetition of “give it some time, take all my money” can be interpreted as both the singer’s desperation to please his lover and possibly a critique of a society that values material possessions over emotional connection. The juxtaposition of turning holy water into champagne may represent the singer’s attempt to elevate the relationship to a higher level, or it may be a commentary on the idea that people often use religion as an excuse for indulgent behavior. The overall feeling of the song is one of desperation and a lack of control, both on an individual and societal level.

Overall, “Control” is a haunting and powerful song that speaks to the darker aspects of love and obsession. The lyrics suggest that while love can be a beautiful and transformative experience, it can also be dangerous and destructive when taken to extremes.

There’s something chaotic beautiful about battletapes I just can’t put my finger on it.

@herusolares5320

try Carpenter Brut. He has similarly chaotic bassriffs behind the main melody.
(such as Paradise Warfare)

@gabrielgingras814

I can't believe I overlooked this one for so long. The way the melody builds up is masterful.

@basiltron

Definitely my favourite song right now and I don't think any song from other bands is taking it for a while

@philippafield6424

Honestly though, only discovered this band recently and nearly every song makes me want to spontaneously "bust a move" even if im driving or headphones in at a mall, thats how feel good their music is!!!!!

If someone asks me when the next song is coming, I'll say "not soon enough"

Seriously though, your works are something of the future, keep it up :)

@grandtheftautolabs3439

This band actually keeps getting better. I was blown away by their first EP, then I heard the second album and couldn't stop listening, now this EP dropped, and I'm addicted.
