Beast
Battlecross Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why don't you try fighting instead of wanting more
You disgust me with every complacent breath you take
It's far too easy to give up before you fall
I try so hard to keep my demons at bay
I try so hard to keep the beast inside caged
If you weren't so weak and petty you could be right here too
Weakness isn't something that will wash right off
Be marked with pride and honor or covered with filth and shame
I try so hard to keep my demons at bay
I try so hard to keep the beast inside caged
Chains on my throat to save yourself from me
Fighting the urge to keep the beast from you
The lyrics of Battlecross's song "Beast" seem to be about facing one's inner demons and fighting against them in order to achieve success. The opening lines suggest that sometimes the struggles and hardships one experiences can actually be a blessing in disguise. The next line, "Why don't you try fighting instead of wanting more", suggests that instead of giving up or giving in to their inner demons, the singer is urging the listener to fight against them.
The following lines seem to be directed at someone who is complacent, weak, and petty. The singer is disgusted with every breath this person takes and advises against giving up before they fall. The next set of lines seems to be about the singer's own struggle to control their inner demons, to "keep the beast inside caged". They have worked hard to get where they are and believe that if others weren't so weak and petty they could be there too.
The final lines of the song suggest that the singer is struggling to control their inner demons and urges the listener to do the same. They are restrained, with "chains on [their] throat", to save others from the beast within. The singer is fighting against the urge to unleash the beast upon others, demonstrating the constant struggle to control one's inner demons.
Overall, the song is about the internal struggle that we all face to keep our inner demons in check and not letting them control our lives. It also emphasizes the importance of hard work and determination to achieve success.
