Strangers in the Night
Baumann Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Strangers in the night
Exchanging glances
Wond'ring in the night
What were the chances
We'd be sharing love
Before the night was through
Something in your eyes
Was so inviting
Something in your smile
Was so exciting
Something in my heart
Told me I must have you
Strangers in the night
Two lonely people we were
Strangers in the night
Up to the moment when we
Said our first hello
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away
A warm embracing dance away
And ever since that night
We've been together
Lovers at first sight
In love forever

It turned out so right
For strangers in the night

Overall Meaning

The song "Strangers in the Night" by Bert Kaempfert and sung by Frank Sinatra and later Wayne Newton, is a sweet ballad about two strangers who meet for the first time at night and end up falling in love. The song speaks of exchanging glances and wondering about the chances of finding love. There is a magnetic attraction between the two, which leads them to share love before the night is through. The song emphasizes how a single glance, smile or invite can be the catalyst that sparks love at first sight. The song also expresses how two lonely strangers' lives can be changed forever by a chance meeting.

The song's lyrics are emotive, and the melody is calming and complement the lyrics very well. It creates an ambiance that allows the listener to travel into the same scenario and experience the feelings expressed by the singer. The greatest of times...

@neoschenker

Here in Chicago there was a music video channel that had a half hour show in the afternoon after school. This would be “back in the day”. This was on steady rotation. Always loved the song. Still have a 12” remix that I found somewhere.

I never heard this song before. Very good one. Was he a member of Tangerine dream?

@jeanlot

Yes during the 70's he was member of Tangerine Drram with Froese and Franke....it was the "historical" lineup

@marcd2936

He programmed sequencers and wrote keyboard parts for TG, yes. A founding member.
