They didn't receive much mainstream attention for their first two albums, 2000's punk-pop Sussidiario Illustrato della Giovinezza and 2003's La Moda del Lento, though they were critically acclaimed.
Fabrizio left for perosnal and artistic reasons, after their newly produced and managed third album finally brought them more widespread popularity.
Now made up of leader Francesco Bianconi on vocals, guitar, and synths, Rachele Bastreghi on vocals and keys, Claudio Brasini on guitar, and Claudio Chiari on drums, the band released La Malavita on Warner Bros. Italy in 2005. Mixing the romantic sounds of British artists like the Smiths and Depeche Mode with Italian composers like Ennio Morricone and Angelo Badalamenti and American acts like Television and Scott Walker, as well as with modern sounds of electronica and indie rock, the record gained immediate attention in the group's home country, resulting in an extensive nationwide tour.

Chiesa cattolica
Estetica anestetica
Provincia cronica
Si vende amore tossico
'Ndrangheta e Camorra più Gomorra e meno Sodoma
Denunciasi calamità di marijuana e crimine
Morire la domenica
Chiesa cattolica
Estetica anestetica
Provincia cronica
The lyrics are from Baustelle's song titled "I provinciali." The song talks about the struggles of life in small towns, particularly in Italy. The first verse talks about a victim who is seeking love and affection but is suffocated by their surroundings. The line "Azzittasi crepuscoli, balere ad ore piccole" translates to "Twilight silences, small-hour dances," which speaks to the kind of nightlife that can be found in small towns.
The second verse talks about the dark side of small-town life. The line "Si vende amore tossico" translates to "Toxic love is sold," indicating the presence of drugs and prostitution. The lyrics also mention criminal organizations like the 'Ndrangheta and the Camorra, which are prevalent in Italian society. The line "Denunciasi calamità di marijuana e crimine" translates to "Marijuana and crime are denounced," referring to the spread of drug-related crimes in small towns.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Morire la domenica, Chiesa cattolica, Estetica anestetica, Provincia cronica" which translates to "Die on Sunday, Catholic Church, Anesthetic aesthetics, Chronic province." This line further emphasizes the monotony and lack of excitement in small-town life, as well as the influence of religion on the community.
Overall, the song is a commentary on the struggles of life in small towns, particularly in Italy, and highlights the darker aspects of the community such as drugs, crime, and a lack of excitement.
