Winter Flight
Bay Laurel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In a landscape so shimmering white.
Under a cold sky so blue.
They look so sad in their dresses of cold.
Maybe they long to be in another world.
To the horizon they long to fly.
Lost under sorrow silver they mourn the days that died.
Frozen arms stretched out to touch the sky.
Winter flight...
Their arms, stretched to the sky.
To the horizon they long to fly
The lyrics of Bay Laurel's Winter Flight evoke feelings of melancholy and nostalgia. The opening lines paint a vivid picture of a winter scene, with the snow-covered landscape shimmering in the pale sunlight under a cold, blue sky. The second line introduces the central theme of the song - a sense of sadness and longing - as the poet observes the frozen world outside and the figures within it, who seem to be weighed down by their "dresses of cold." The third line continues this metaphor, suggesting that these individuals might prefer to be in some other place or time - perhaps a more carefree, warmer world that would allow them to shed their somber garments and live with greater ease and joy.
The refrain of the song repeats the image of arms reaching upward to the sky, as if the individuals in question are trying to escape the confines of their winter landscape and find a new horizon to explore. The lines "lost under sorrow silver they mourn the days that died" further emphasize this sense of sorrow and grief, while the final line of the refrain - "winter flight" - offers a hint of escape or release.
Overall, Bay Laurel's Winter Flight is a poignant meditation on the melancholy beauty of winter and the human desire for freedom, change, and renewal.
