Days of Candy
Beach House Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No one could find you
Out on your own
All things I loved
But do not know
On Hopewall road

These days of candy
Live in your mind
Those violet lines
White fenced in miles
Across my eyes

A world inside you
No photograph
My natural one
The rising sun
Live in your mind

Just like that, it's gone
Just like that, it's gone
Just like that

I know it comes too soon
The universe is riding off with you

Hi o, out there, I know
A little bit of you, I keep it close to me
I know it comes too soon
The universe is riding off with you

I know it comes too soon
I know it stays for nobody

I want to know you there
The universe is riding off with you

Overall Meaning

The song "Days of Candy" by Beach House is a dreamy and ethereal ballad that explores the concept of nostalgia and reflections on the past. The opening lines "No one could find you, Out on your own" represents the feeling of being lost and alone, which is then followed by "All things I loved, But do not know." This reflects on the idea that memories can become distorted or hazy with time, where the things that were loved at one point may no longer be familiar or recognizable.

The chorus "These days of candy, Live in your mind" suggests that the memories of the past are sweet and comforting, and they serve as a source of comfort even if the present may be difficult. This is further emphasized by the line "Those violet lines, White fenced in miles, Across my eyes" which can be interpreted as a description of an idyllic past.

The verse "A world inside you, No photograph, My natural one, The rising sun, Live in your mind" is a reflection on the idea that our internal world and our memories can be more vivid and real than anything that can be captured in a photograph. The song concludes with the lines "I want to know you there, The universe is riding off with you" which reinforces the idea that the past is fleeting and that eventually, everything will fade away.

@indorianshell

I tried to traduce the lyrics in french for anyone who wants to sing along <3

Personne ne te trouveras
Dehors toute seule
Chaques choses que j'aime
Mais ne savent pas
Sur la grande voie

Ces jours de bêtises
Vivent dans ta tête
Ces lignes violettes
Clôturent lointaine
Parmi mes yeux

This is my favourite beach house song, like ever.Almost has an angelic and heavenly feel to it,as if you're floating amidst the cosmos.A haunting song about letting go in my opinion(of people,of houses,of cities,of memories, etc),strongly reminding us of the ephemeral and transient nature of everything in our lives.

Yes absolutely about letting go... Heartbreaking but seems necessary in the ever changing life

I love this song, it’s in my top 4 beach house songs and top 30 ever, but I will say, this is the song that I think of the world ending to.

People talk about break-ups and losing someone dear, but what hurts the most for me personally is losing one's innocence, looking back on your childhood, who you used to be and who you became. Looking back on those days gives the burning feeling in your gut, which is what I believe this song is about.

Felt that :(
