Flick of the Finger
Beady Eye Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Say what you believe

Woke up this morning, I was laid out flat on the dark side
With the moon and the room on the wrong side
I took a needle, sewn myself right back at the seams
I saw my universal gleam
I see the wonder of life and look for the wall
Just taking a walk in the sun
In time
In just a second like the ghost of a bad idea
I feel myself getting the fear
C'mon
Have we decided if we like being part of the plan?
The sands are shifting and there's nowhere to land
It's on
It doesn't matter if all the best tickets are sold
And all the old stories are told
I know
You're gonna tell me that you hear every word I say

But the future gets written today
Yeah the future gets written today

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Beady Eye's song Flick of the Finger appear to center around some kind of existential crisis, with the singer contemplating the nature of existence and their place within it. The opening lines suggest a feeling of disorientation and confusion, as the singer wakes up feeling lost and detached from reality. However, this sense of dislocation is soon overcome, as the singer takes control of their own life by "sewing [themselves] right back at the seams."

Throughout the song, the singer is portrayed as a somewhat jaded and cynical figure, questioning the validity of established norms and traditions. They ask "have we decided if we like being part of the plan?" and observe that "the sands are shifting and there's nowhere to land." Despite this skepticism, however, the singer ultimately seems to find comfort in their own personal convictions, declaring that "the future gets written today."

Overall, the lyrics of Flick of the Finger suggest a complicated relationship with the world and those around us, but ultimately seem to celebrate the power of individual agency and self-determination.

Don't be deceived when our revolution has been finally stamped out and they pat you paternally on the shoulder and say that there's no inequality worth speaking of and no more reason for fighting. Because if you believe them they will be completely in charge, in their marble homes and granite banks, from which they rob the people of the world under the pretence of bringing them culture. Watch out, for as soon as it pleases them they’ll send you out to protect their gold in wars, whose weapons, rapidly developed by servile scientists, will become more and more deadly until they can, with a flick of the finger, tear a million of you to pieces

When Oasis split, many people thought 'that would be the last we would see of Liam', because we had the perception that Noel was holding the band together. How wrong the critics were. Liam has proven himself to be a refined talent that absolutely will not be suppressed. In my opinion he is the personification of rock and roll.

Toxic Mutant & the Maritime Creatures

Nope ! The rest of Oasis was hold the band together. Noël was shocking its creativity and Liam was surfing on everyone else's talent. Which he does this band too. To a very good result. But the credit goes to the sidekicks.

Julián Alonso

He's a legend. One of the last true rock & roll icons.

ruben marrufo

Liam was the rock and roll star all along
