Shine a Light
Beady Eye Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Slowly rewind through the past, space and time
There you'll see what's inside, you're the Sun, you're the light
See the man of the cloth, got it wrong from the off
Out of line, out of reach, me and you born to see

Shine a light (shine a la-la, shine a light)
Shine a light (shine a la-la, shine a light)
Rising fast on my feet, let me breathe, let me speak
I'm at home, I'm alive, pulseing veins, prophesied
Crystalline in the dark, all you see is the spark
All you feel, you don't speak, me and you born to see

Shine a light (shine a la-la, shine a light)
Shine a light (shine a la-la, shine a light)

And sure enough, weeping your love
I'm seeing the look in your eyes

Shine a light (shine a la-la, shine a light)
(Shine a la-la, shine a light)
Come on, shine a light (shine a la-la, shine a light)
(Shine a la-la, shine a light)

Come on shine a light, come on shine a light
Come on shine a light, come on shine a light
Universalise, la-alise, shine a light, la-alise

Universalise, la-alise, oh-alise
Universalise, la-alise, ah-alise, univers-alise

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Beady Eye's song "Shine a Light" seem to be about finding oneself and the power within. The first verse references taking a trip through the past to find what's inside, indicating a journey of self-discovery. The mention of the man of the cloth getting it wrong from the beginning could be a criticism of religious institutions or the idea that societal constructs can steer individuals off their intended path. The chorus repeats the phrase "shine a light" which can be interpreted as a call to embrace one's own light and radiate it out into the world, rather than relying on external sources of guidance or validation.

The second verse continues with the theme of personal power and being alive, proclaiming that the singer is "pulseing veins, prophesied". The use of "prophesied" could be interpreted as a nod to destiny or fate, while the mention of being "crystalline in the dark" suggests becoming clear and bright amid adversity. The chorus repeats again with the idea that shining one's light is a powerful force that can be used to spread positivity and hope.

Overall, the song seems to encourage individual empowerment and the pursuit of inner knowledge and strength. The repeated chorus of "shine a light" serves as a sort of mantra to remind listeners to tap into their own light and let it shine.

In terms of freedom, Beady Eye are the most amazing and most creative in expressing their music among all OASIS branches. Even Liam's solos are more Oasis-influenced, and Noel's solo started fresh but lately too much techno / modern music and songs started to look similar.

50s and 60's rock'n roll (Bring the Light, Wind up Dream, The Beat Goes On),
psychedelic-influenced (The Morning Son, Soul Love, Don't Brother Me),
60's-70's ballad / pop songs (Kill for a Dream, Wigwam, Start Anew, Off a the Next Exit),
folk and world's music (Millionaire, Shine a Light, Ballroom Figured),
big-band / opera / horns influenced (Flick of the Finger, Second Bite of the Apple),
pop rock / modern Britpop (The Roller, Iz Rite, The World is not Set in Stone, For Anyone)
and hard rock (Four Letter Word, Face the Crowd, Beatles and Stones).

At that rate, at their 4th / 5th album they might try to touch into The Smiths / Duran-Duran / dance / Depeche Mode / Stone Roses area. But shamefully the majority of crowd didn't take them seriously and they had to stop :(
