Go to Sleep
Bearson feat. Kailee Morgue Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There is a woman
Sitting on her porch
And I see her every morning
Not much going on
I wonder if it′s boring

There is a man
Tending to his garden
He's just living of the land
The world around him′s moving
Can he feel it like I can?

Feels like my heart's outside my body
As I'm walking down the street
And the air is just this precious California
Let it be
Probably ′cause the population′s higher
Than the trees
So I just walk back to my house
And I go to sleep

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep

There is a child
Running down the sidewalk
Young heart's they can get wild
Better hold her hand
For a little while

Feels like my heart′s outside my body
As I'm walking down the street
And the air is just this precious California
Let it be
Probably ′cause the population's higher
Than the trees
So I just walk back to my house
And I go to sleep

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep

And how do I stop rotating
On this blue sphere
It′s frustrating
And how do I stop rotating
On this blue sphere
It's frustrating

Feels like my heart's outside my body
As I′m walking down the street
And the air is just this precious California
Let it be
Probably ′cause the population's higher
Than the trees
So I just walk back to my house
And I go to sleep

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep

Anyone else loves the lyrics so much? I wanna talk about it.

@Legomax18

What do you think the meaning is?

@friedenslilie1150

I think its about feeling overwhelmed in todays fast-paced society. The woman and the man she talks about take a step out of the pressure society places upon us though. They are living a slow, mindful life without much stress, anxiety etc. „Can he feel it like I can? - It feels like my hearts outside my body as I‘m walking down the street.“ She has to „go to sleep“ because she has to compensate the sensory overload of the normal western life.
The lifes of the man and the woman seem boring at first to her, but in the end she admires them.

Jona A Great analysis. I agree with this so much, and haven’t seen anyone else talk about it. To add more: I think the singer is facing some kind of hostile addiction to her lifestyle. She looks at the woman and man without much going on, and wonders “if it’s boring”. Almost like she can’t believe that people living such simple lives can still be satisfied. She imagines herself in their shoes, and it seems boring, because those people are missing out on a lot of enjoyable things in life that she doesn’t. So why did they settle down without complaints? She knows there must be some appeal to the way they are living, even if she can’t fully understand it. She understands it enough to predict that such a lifestyle would alleviate some of the dissatisfactions she has with hers. But she isn’t ready to commit, for now.

About the “heart’s outside my body” line. In addition to what you mentioned, I think it refers to the phenomenon of news and social media pressuring people to know about and care about every tragedy that’s ever happened in the world. We are pressured to consider everything from littering and MPG in our little lives, to murders and destruction of nature on the other side of the planet. When you’re walking down the street in a major city, you’re probably faced with seeing the effects of pollution, littering, homeless, and etc. Her heart is outside her body trying to acknowledge and feel sorry about all the bad things happening around her. But she just can’t take it. She can see the appeal of blissful ignorance possessed by the woman&man, and how decreasing exposure to bad news and societal/environmental issues could improve one’s mental health.

About “And go to sleep”, I don’t necessarily think it’s symbolic of her choosing the simple life in the end, and being like the woman&man. Rather, it’s that she is literally going to sleep. After all, sleep is the most notable aspect of lifestyle that she has in common with the woman&man. Sleep unites all people, regardless of where they are on the spectrum between a high-pressure dynamic lifestyle, or a simple one. Sleep is the only opportunity people like the singer have for temporary relief from their responsibilities and pressure.

I don’t know if she ever chooses to abandon her ways and follow the woman&man. Maybe she is too invested/addicted in her current life, and gets satisfaction in certain areas that she knows she would regret losing if she changed. Maybe she thinks she can just wait until she is older, for a life like that. She wants to believe youth is the right time for a dynamic, but stressing lifestyle. She assumes that she will be able to leave whenever she has had her fill, and take up simpler ways. Perhaps that is what the woman&man did... but perhaps not...

I love this song so much! I agree with both of you guys! I wonder if when she says her heart is outside of her body, maybe she means that there’s so much pressure for her to reveal what she’s feeling about specific things (like the climate, population, pollution etc). I think she refers to the the simple farmer, the small child, and the wife as examples of people who could be exempt from those pressures? That’s why she says to hold the child’s hand “for a little while?” Idk! But i love music and love how it can be interpreted in so many ways!
