The opening lines “When did it get so hard to listen? When did my ears go numb?” sets a contemplative tone to the song where the singer is questioning his inability to understand his own native tongue – a condition that has been brought on presumably by the cacophony of the modern world. The lyrics can be interpreted to mean that we have stopped listening to our inner voices and are more focused on the external factors that control our lives. This band is literally my favorite band ever. I've never loved anyone's music as much as theirs. I love every single song. I saw them live & met them and it was absolutely amazing.
