Rain
Beatles Lyrics

They run and hide their heads
They might as well be dead
If the rain comes
If the rain comes
When the sun shines
They slip into the shade
When the sun shines
When the sun shines
Rain, I don't mind
Shine, the weather's fine
I can show you
That when it starts to rain
Everything's the same
I can show you
I can show you
Rain, I don't mind
Shine, the weather's fine
Can you hear me
That when it rains and shines
It's just a state of mind
Can you hear me
Can you hear me
The Beatles' song "Rain" begins with a reflection on the attitudes of people towards the weather. The lyrics suggest that when it rains, people tend to hide indoors and avoid the outdoors, as if the rain is a threat to their existence. However, the singer remarks that this behavior is foolish and suggests that in reality, the rain is harmless. The lyrics then contrast this with people's behavior during sunny weather, when they come out and enjoy themselves.
The chorus of the song delivers a message that the singer is not bothered by the rain and is content as long as the weather is fine. The second verse repeats the same sentiments as the first, emphasizing that despite the rain, things remain the same.
The final verse addresses the listeners directly, asking if they can understand the singer's point of view. The chorus repeats this sentiment, driving home the idea that one's perception of the weather is simply a state of mind.
Overall, the song can be seen as a philosophical reflection on the human attitude towards the environment. It suggests that one's perception of the world is shaped by their own mindset and that external factors have less influence than one might think.

I recall an interview he gave in which he was asked which Beatles track was his best work, and he said this one. He told us that he knows his own style well, but that this number was almost unrecognizable to him, and that he didn't think he'd be able to reproduce it. He's been called the king of feel - here's good example of that.
