Ticket To Ride
Beatles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I think I'm gonna be sad,
I think it's today, yeah
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away

She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care

She said that living with me
Is bringing her down yeah
For she would never be free
When I was around

She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care

I don't know why she's ridin' so high,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me
I think I'm gonna be sad,
I think it's today yeah
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away, yeah

She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care

I don't know why she's ridin' so high,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me
She said that living with me,
Is bringing her down, yeah
For she would never be free
When I was around

Ah, she's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care

My baby don't care, my baby don't care

My baby don't care, my baby don't care
My baby don't care, my baby don't care

Overall Meaning

The Beatles’ “Ticket to Ride” lyrics are centered on the singer’s feelings and emotions towards his girlfriend, who is leaving him. He is sad and doubtful about the way things are turning out between them. He feels that the girl is “driving him mad” and that she has a “ticket to ride” away from him. Despite having the authority to leave, he pleads with her to rethink her actions and do right by him. The singer acknowledges that his girlfriend may be doing the right thing by leaving since she made it clear that living with him was reducing her freedom. Still, he doesn’t seem to understand why she is “riding so high” and “not caring” about the impact of her decision. The song ends with the singer accepting her choice and asking her to go, even though he is deeply hurt.
