We're part of a culture that really loves to hate us
We belong to a culture which hates us to a great extent.

Every chance they get they attempt to isolate and debate us
They make every attempt to isolate and engage us in arguments.

It's not that they don't like us, its just they don't like God in us
It's not that they dislike us personally, but they dislike the God in us.

It's common knowledge and Oddly enough, it makes a lot of sense to a lot of us,
This is a well-known fact and, surprisingly, it also makes sense to many of us.

We completely understand because we use to occupy the same space
We understand this hatred because we were once in the same state as them.

And lived in a similar type state until we tasted of God's grace
We lived in the same situation until we experienced God's love.

So we continue loving this world that so easily rejects us
Despite the rejection we face, we continue loving this world.

And passionately press past the lack of their cultural acceptance
We fervently push past the lack of acceptance by this culture.

And as if there weren't enough problems for us gaining influence
As if the problems we face for gaining influence are not enough,

We keep fighting over the issue of what's too worldly of a christian to make a difference
We argue over what is too worldly for a Christian to make a difference.

So no matter how you paint it or politically campaign it
Regardless of how you present it or campaign for it politically,

Whether you water it down and drain it. It's really all the same ain't it?
If you dilute it or simplify it, it's still the same message.

It's the same frustration, same constant segregation
We face the same frustration and constant segregation as before.

Christians living like aliens trying to relate with citizens of a different nation
Christians living as foreigners trying to coexist with the citizens of a different nation.

What always makes for a better presentation then bark and bite
Living a life full of love and kindness is always a better way to present ourselves than aggression.

Is a proper understanding of living life filled with salt and light
The right way to live is by spreading the message of love and hope.

So we walk this fine line of walking in light of God's kindness
We walk a fine line by showing kindness while being true to God's message.

And live with a sense of worldliness without the fear of compromising
We live in this world but don't compromise our values.

Loving God and neighbor until Christ comes to split the sky
We love God and our neighbors until Christ's return.

Or die in this society hailing Jesus as Messiah
Even if we die, we will continue to proclaim Jesus as the Messiah.

Hey, I thought we won the battle but it really looks like we losing it
I believed we won, but now it seems like we're losing.

What we do seems insignificant, so limited in our influence
Our actions seem insignificant and our influence seems limited.

They don't listen to our message, we scream and yell it, they say it's irrelevant
Our message falls on deaf ears, and they deem it irrelevant even though we try to convey it forcefully.

It's the greatest story ever told but a television ain't telling it
It's the greatest story ever told, but the media doesn't seem to be promoting it.

So often they just mock our faith and it makes me wanna hide my face
We are often ridiculed for our faith, making us want to hide.

Why we sitting on our hands with no plans like we got time to waste?
Why are we not making efforts to advance our cause? Do we have all the time we need?

The culture could change if someone stepped up for the cause
Our culture could change if someone took the initiative.

To rep us and our God, but who will accept the job?
Who is willing to represent us and God in this endeavor?

If only we had better rappers to gain us more respect
If only we had better musicians to gain more respect for our message.

To validate what we believe and keep our name up in the press
To validate our beliefs and keep our message in the public eye.

But God does not use the same methods as the world
God doesn't work using the same methods as the world.

He chose the foolish and the weak to bring His message to the world
God chose the foolish and weak to spread His message.

We were rescued from the world, He left us here to be His servants
God saved us from this world so that we can spread His message.

We don't need more superstars we need more Gospel centered churches
We need more churches centered on the Gospel and not more superstars.

Working as the body to bring the Gospel to the nations
As the body of Christ, we work to spread the Gospel to the nations.

Even when we face rejection Jesus is our validation
Even when rejected, we know Jesus' love for us validates us.

And we will be vindicated, yeah we know His path is narrow
We will be justified, and we understand that our path is not easy.

To follow Him requires more than bumper stickers and apparel
Following Christ requires more than displaying bumper stickers and wearing Christian apparel.

They will know us by our love, not by our celebrities
They will recognize us by our love and not by our fame.

So we pray for those who persecute us and show love to our enemies
We pray for our persecutors and show love to our adversaries.

We are in this world not of it, not to be scared and run from it
We exist in this world but are not a part of it, and we should not be intimidated by it.

We shine light in the darkness, that's why He left us here
We spread the light of hope in this dark world, and that's why God left us here.

Calling out to all the exiles, the Lord will not forsake you
We call out to those who feel like exiles, and we assure them that God will not abandon them.

His kingdom can't be shaken, hold strong the end is near
His kingdom is unshakable; hold on, for the end is near.

We are the light of the world, so, shine on
