Faded
Beauty's Confusion Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm waiting for you under blue christmas lights
Trimmed the wick and lit the candle, scent you've always liked
Seems like I watch the clock each hour
Only two minutes pass
And when you finally make it, I know
Our time won't last

So I wait
Wait
Wait
For the next time

I've been thinking so much about
Our last conversation
Even though I sounded mad
You've always brought me elation
I never meant to stale the air
To cloud our communication
Something about the tone of your voice
Left my heart an abrasion

So I wait for you
So I wait for you
So I'll wait forever

Enslaved me
And trapped me in this lethal cell
Enslaved me
I can't breathe
The lies that you tell

Enslaved me
And trapped me in this lethal cell
Enslaved me
I can't breathe
The lies that you tell

Whatever hope was left has faded now
By your cruel intentions
Now the candle's gone and I'm still here
I'm still here

Enslaved me
And trapped me in this lethal cell
Enslaved me
I can't breathe
The lies that you tell

Enslaved me
I can't breathe
This lethal cell
Enslaved me

I can't breathe
The lies that you tell

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of this song talks about waiting for someone under blue Christmas lights while burning a candle with the scent that the person prefers. The singer seems to be eagerly waiting for this person, but when the person finally arrives, the time spent together is limited. This stanza hints at a sense of longing and waiting for someone who is not immediately available.

The second stanza reveals that the singer is reflecting on a past conversation with this person. Although the conversation ended on a sour note, the singer cannot help but feel elated whenever they interact with this person. The singer acknowledges that they may have been the one causing communication problems, but the tone of the other person's voice caused them pain. The line "left my heart an abrasion" implies that this person hurt the singer deeply, even though it may have been unintentional.

The third stanza introduces a darker element to the song. The words "enslaved" and "lethal cell" suggest a level of danger and captivity that the singer is experiencing. It seems that the lies the other person has told the singer has trapped them in a dangerous situation, and the singer confesses their inability to breathe as a result. The song ends sadly, with the singer confessing that any hope of a positive outcome has now faded away due to the other person's cruel intentions.
