In Harms Way
Bebe Winans Lyrics

Undying love you've given to me
Seen in me things I would never have seen
I don't understand why you care so much, it's all a mystery
Time and time again I ask myself
What have I done to deserve such wealth
The price you paid, I could never repay your generosity

In wanting to save me
In order to save the day
Because of love you placed yourself
In harm's way
It's truly beyond me
Left without a word to say
What kind of love would place itself
In harm's way?
What kind of love would place itself
In harm's way?

When I was down you came and lifted me
When I was bound, yes, you set me free
Things that you do makes it clear to see
It's all a master plan
Oh, no greater love that I've come to know
And when I refuse, you still love me so
With open arms you came and rescued me
And erased all the pain, yes all the pain

In wanting to save me
In order to save the day
Because of love you placed yourself
In harm's way
It's truly beyond me
Left without a word to say
What kind of love would place itself
In harm's way?
What kind of love would place itself
In harm's way?

What kind of love would place itself
And risk your life for love's sake?
What kind of love just takes on all the blame?
It seems to be so easy
It hurts sometimes but you never let go
You will to love in spite of all you know
You know, you know

In wanting to save me
In order to save the day
Because of love you placed yourself
In harm's way
It's truly beyond me
Left without a word to say
What kind of love would place itself
In harm's way?

What kind of love would place itself
In harm's way?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to BeBe Winans' song "In Harm's Way" is a tribute to a love that is relentless, selfless, and sacrificial. It is expressed through the singer's gratitude and disbelief towards the love he has received. The song begins with acknowledging the unending and unexpected love that the singer has received from his lover. The singer is bewildered by the constant care and attention he receives, and he recognizes it as a mystery. The singer acknowledges that he could never repay his lover's generosity and the sacrifices they have made for him.

The chorus questions what kind of selfless love would put itself in harm's way for another person. The singer is left speechless and in awe of the love that his lover has shown him. He doesn't have the words to describe how touched he is by the lengths his lover has gone to save him. The verse that follows showcases the past struggles and low points in the singer's life, which his lover has helped him to overcome. The singer sees his redemption as a part of a "master plan" and cannot comprehend how they could deserve such pure love.

The next verse further emphasizes the incredible depth of the unconditional love that the singer is receiving. The love is described as being willing to sacrifice everything to be with the person they love, even if it means placing themselves in harm's way. The chorus is repeated as a reflection of this idea. Overall, the song is a powerful testament to the beauty of love and the gratitude one feels when receiving such a selfless gift.

BeBe is a Christian music artist. This is a song about needing God. Life’s situations have made life difficult and they are in need of God’s help.
The “winds obey” is a reference to when Jesus was on a boat with his disciples and the storms came, and Jesus spoke the words “Peace! be still”; the line “the winds obey” is a popular line in many gospel songs and hymns. Listen to the ad libs at the end, and you will get a sense of what the song is about. There are phrases such as “You said if there was ever a situation, O Lord”, also CeCe sings the words “Kum by yah” (come by here). When we try to make sense of it without applying the true meaning, it ends up being a random, unconnected set of words. It is clearly a prayer, a cry for help in song - which is not that strange subject matter for a gospel artist!

The song "Tonight Tonight" by BeBe Winans speaks of the power of love and the importance of having someone special in one's life. The way this person's smile lights up everything and makes all troubles fade away is emphasized in the opening lines of the song. The person's very presence has the ability to calm storms, even the winds listen to their words. It is evident that this love is what makes them high, what brings them joy and happiness, and it is what they long for every night.

As the song progresses, BeBe mentions how life can be tough and how the bills can pile up. In such moments, this special someone becomes all the more important. Love, in this instance, provides a source of hope and encouragement, something to hold onto when times get hard. The song expresses the need to share life with this person, to have them by their side in both good times and bad. The idea that this love is something that can make even the hardest situation bearable is echoed throughout the lyrics. In essence, "Tonight Tonight" is a song of love, hope, and the power of having someone special in your life.
