Until We Burn in the Sun
Bedouin Soundclash Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Until we burn back into the sun
Until we burn, the kids will just want a love song

Popping a collar and kicking down the street
Kick it, kick it, kick it to the friends you will meet
Beats to beats move our broken club feet
On the off-beat and in the Middle East
The dance one drops like water in the sand
Drop it, drop it, drop it like the heat in clubland
The moves that break, the breaks, we break on news stands.
The time that sifts like sand through my hand

Until we burn back into the sun
Until we burn, the kids will just want a love song

Breaking, breaking, breaking like waves in the sand
Polar bears on American Band Stand
Killer, killer, killer on electric break slide
Put it back together on a worldwide divide

City punk-rocker rocking like he doesn't try
With a roots-reggae rocker like Lucy in the Sky
We all fall down when the water runs dry
We all say "Hello" when we all meant "Goodbye"

'til we burn back into the sun
Until we burn, the kids will just want a love song

Yeah!

We all say "Hello" when we all meant "Goodbye"
'til we burn

Until we burn
Until we burn, the kids will just want a love song

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Bedouin Soundclash's "Until We Burn in the Sun" immediately establish the song's sense of urgency and the stakes at stake: "Until we burn back into the sun / Until we burn, the kids will just want a love song." The repetition of "Burn" creates a sense of urgency and intensity, and the use of the phrase "burn back into the sun" suggests a desire for rebirth or renewal. The line about kids wanting a love song hints at the possible consequences of not burning or renewing - a loss of youthfulness, innocence, and a sense of hope.

The rest of the song paints a vivid picture of the scene and mood at the club where the singer finds himself. Lines such as "Popping a collar and kicking down the street / Kick it, kick it, kick it to the friends you will meet" and "Beats to beats move our broken club feet / On the off-beat and in the Middle East" create a sense of movement and excitement, but also hint at a sense of dislocation or alienation. The use of dance imagery throughout the song, such as "The dance one drops like water in the sand" and "The moves that break, the breaks, we break on news stands," suggests a desire for connection and communion, but also a sense of fragmentation or disconnection. The song reaches its climax with the repeated refrain of "Until we burn back into the sun / Until we burn, the kids will just want a love song," which underlines the importance of change, renewal, and rebirth, and suggests that without them, we risk losing everything that matters most.

Yeah Mon'... it's Reggae reborn to rock... and it's a good tune... the lyrics are suspect... but the main one - "until we burn into the sun" is the hook... so... it makes it... even flys in Jamica.
