Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You
Bee Gees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh solo Dominique [Repeat: x4]

Take this in hand
Said he who stands
Behind the chair
A broken table there

Every christian lion hearted man will show you
Every christian lion hearted man will show you

Oh solo Dominique [Repeat: x4]

Don't walk so tall
Before you crawl

For every child
Is thinking of something wild

Every christian lion hearted man will show you
Every christian lion hearted man will show you

Oh solo Dominique [Repeat: x3]

Every christian lion hearted man will show you
Every christian lion hearted man will show you (will show you)

Oh solo Dominique [Repeat: x3]

Overall Meaning

The Bee Gees’s song Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You has lyrics that are open to interpretation. The start of the song speaks of a man named Dominique, who is alone and playing some instrument. The second line has some fascinating imagery of someone standing behind a chair and a broken table there. One can assume that Dominique is in a room that is not in great shape, and this symbolism represents some form of lost hope or breakdown in a relationship.

The chorus of the song is repeated multiple times, and it speaks of every Christian lion-hearted man showing something important. It is a metaphor for all the brave souls who follow Christianity and take a stand for their beliefs. The song speaks of courage, and the lyrics say that every Christian who has lion-hearted courage can show people something valuable.

The third verse of the song says, “Don't walk so tall before you crawl.” It’s a warning that challenges one to be humble and not get too confident too soon. The last verse repeats the chorus and speaks of how every Christian lion-hearted man will show you something that needs to be valued. The song’s melody is pretty upbeat, and the non-specific message of courage makes the song evergreen and continually relevant.

Some of their best works were on "B" sides, and this stands right up there with the best of them. The use of the Gregorian chant against the mellotron is highly imaginative.

Well! I just discovered that the REM song Superman was written by a band called the Clique, in 1969. The Clique opened for the Dave Clark Five in 1966. I think they ripped this song off.

The rhythm track on this song sounds almost exactly like the one on "Tomorrow Never Knows" by the Beatles from the previous year. That song originally had monks chanting throughout. That was John's original vision for the song. But then he thought it didn't work, so he switched to seagulls.

I feel sure the Bee Gees knew about that, considering they knew the Beatles and knew Brian Epstein and other contemporaries.

Which isn't a bad thing. It works great on this song.

When I heard this song last week for the first time, I instantly thought of the song Superman by REM. It's really close. I bet REM either consciously or unconsciously used this as a basis for Superman.

@Stinky Wink Have loved this song since 1967. So unique... Nothing against "How Deep Is Your Love" or "Tragedy" of course. Barry Gibb (and brothers) had it goin' on.
