Evolution
Bee Gees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a law in what we do
We got a quest for something new
Everything you witness seems to
Let you down
If someone gets you from behind
I got an open mind
And you've been thirsty for the friend you found
Close your eyes and make a wish
I don't wanna mess with mother nature
Knowing that you're mine
You said I could see
You with another and we all get satisfied

[Chorus:]
It's a form of evolution
It's a kind of movin' on
An eternal source of pleasure
In being the one
When your love is for the giving
It's a case of destiny
You know we look for the same insane games
Got to be commital to be a little deviation

So I get all wound up inside
I can see your scene unwind
You dance together or you dance alone
And leave the real world in the air
Love it in leather I don't care
Everything is legal in the danger zone

Close your eyes and make a wish
Later we could cater to the animal
Knowing that you're mine
It's straight in my face
You and your lover and the brain is paralyzed

It's a form of evolution
It's a kind of movin' on
It's a cycle of emotion
In being the one
In the storm of revolution
What is done can be undone
You know we look for the same insane games
Got to be committal
To the subtle variations

It's a form of evolution
It's a kind of movin' on
It's a cycle of emotion
In being the one
If your love is for the givin'
It's a case of destiny
And you can find your source of pleasure
In being with me

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bee Gees' "Evolution" are enigmatic and open to interpretation. The song seems to be about human behavior, love, and sexuality. The opening lines suggest that there are rules to follow when it comes to seeking new experiences, but they often end up being disappointing. The singer seems to be saying that he is open-minded and willing to explore uncharted territories. The reference to being "thirsty" for the friend one found is intriguing, suggesting that the song is about a non-traditional relationship.

The chorus of the song is where the theme of evolution comes in. The singer notes that it's a kind of moving on, a cycle of emotions, and a form of evolution to seek out new experiences. The lyrics suggest that evolution can also be pleasurable and that being the one to give love is a destiny. The second verse continues with the theme of exploring new experiences that may go against convention or legality. The mention of being "wound up inside" suggests that the exploration is exciting but also intimidating. The lyrics also suggest that the relationship in question is not monogamous and that there is room for lovers to dance together or alone.

Overall, the lyrics of "Evolution" seem to suggest that exploring new experiences, even the unconventional ones, can be a form of personal growth and evolution. It also suggests that love and pleasure can be found in non-traditional relationships, where commitment may take a different form.

Hi Frances
Great music selection. Their music is diversified and stands the test of time. I hope you enjoy the music. They have several songs featured in the movie "Saturday Night Fever," a movie from the late 1970's.

You might want to visit "Chad L Summers" channel. He does reactions to their music just about every week for the past year. He also gives insight to the song and The Bee Gees themselves.

Another great group from back in the day is The Everly Brothers vintage 1958 Their first song was "Bye Bye Love", "Wake up Little Susie" "All I have to do is Dream Dream Dream" all great songs.

Good luck with your journey. In today's world music seems to be the best form of relaxation. Stay safe and healthy.

The Bee Gees lasted for decades, because they continued to write music that became popular for each decade. One of my favorite bands of my lifetime…

@petefluffy7420

Because they followed the trends, that's all.

@MrStefanDittrich

right, they also invented Euro dance

@@petefluffy7420they were the trend lmao

@FromThe36thChamber

I wouldn’t say “lasted” that’s implying they aren’t still lasting lmao I mean obviously they aren’t making new music but I grew up in the early 2000s, it’s not like their music was insanely relevant. But my sister in the early 2010s became obsessed with The Bee Gees and knew every song and threw that I ended up hearing a million of their songs I wouldn’t of otherwise that I ended up loving. They also have so many songs like Mr Natural, Massachusetts or I Started a Joke that weren’t “following a trend” at all to what the other dude said

The Bee Gees will be staying alive forever.

@AdiRudi

It's difficult to think of another musical act as versatile and long-lived as the Bee Gees. It's really impressive seeing all that they've done over the years.

The Stones have been going for 75 years now
