Jive Talking
Bee Gees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's just your jive talkin' telling me lies
Jive talkin', you wear a disguise
Jive talkin', so misunderstood, yeah
Jive talkin', you're really no good

Oh, my child, you'll never know
Just what you mean to me
Oh, my child, you got so much
You gonna take away my energy

With all your jive talkin' telling me lies
Good loving still gets in my eyes
Nobody believes what you say
It's just your jive talkin' that gets in the way

Oh, my love, you're so good
Treating me so cruel
There you go with your fancy lies
Leaving me looking like a dumb struck fool

All your jive talkin' telling me lies, yeah
Jive talkin', you wear a disguise
(C'mon, c'mon)
Jive talkin', so misunderstood, yeah
Jive talkin', you just ain't no good

You know that love talkin' is all very fine, yeah
Jive talkin' just isn't a crime
And if there's somebody you'll love till you die
Then all that jive talkin' just gets in your eye

Come on

Jive talkin' telling me lies, yeah
Good loving still gets in my eyes
Nobody believes what you say
It's just your jive talkin' that gets in the way

L-l-love talkin' is all very fine, yeah
Jive talkin', just isn't a crime
And if there's somebody you'll love till you die
Then all that jive talkin' just gets in your eye, yeah, yeah

Oh jive talkin', jive talkin', jive talkin' ah

Jive talkin', jive talkin' ah ah ah ah
Jive talkin', all right, all right, jive talkin', ah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the Bee Gees' song "Jive Talkin'" are about the frustrations that arise from trying to communicate with someone who is not being truthful. The singer compares the other person's speech to jive talk, a term that originated in the jazz world to describe a kind of slang or code language used by musicians. The use of this term suggests that the singer sees the other person's speech as insincere or deceptive.

The lyrics also suggest that the other person is wearing a disguise and is misunderstood, implying that they are hiding their true self and that others do not see them as they really are. The phrase "jive talkin', you're really no good" reinforces this negative perception of the other person.

The chorus of the song repeats the idea that "good loving still gets in my eyes," suggesting that despite the other person's lies and deceptions, the singer still feels love for them. However, this love is being undermined by the other person's jive talk.

Overall, the song is a powerful commentary on the difficulties of communication and the frustration that can arise when people are not truthful with one another.

Fun fact: The rhythm of this song was written and directly inspired by the rhythm the Bee Gees' car made when they were driving on Interstate 195 in Miami. They wrote this song by driving over a bridge.

Love this!!!

@honiideslysses12

The rhythm is very similar to driving across the southbound Lake Pontartrain Causeway to New Orleans.
