Stayin Alive
Bee Gees Lyrics

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around
Since I was born
And now it's alright, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive
Oh, when you walk

Well now, I get low and I get high
And if I can't get either, I really try
Got the wings of Heaven on my shoes
I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose
You know it's alright, it's okay
I'll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive (oh)
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive (oh)

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm
I've been kicked around since I was born
And now it's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive (hey)

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah (ah, ah, ah)
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah (ah, ah, ah, ay)
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah (oh)
Life goin' nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I'm stayin' alive

Overall Meaning

The Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" is a disco classic and was released in 1977. The song is about surviving in the city and features a protagonist who is confident, self-assured, and someone who is always on the move. The lyrics make it clear that he is a "woman's man" who does not have time to talk and prefers to use his body language to express himself. He also has a strong connection to music and seems to be in his element when surrounded by women and loud music.

The song's opening line, "Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk," is a reference to the character's swagger and the way he carries himself. He is a man with a purpose, moving with confidence and power. The lines, "Got the wings of Heaven on my shoes, I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose," reveal the character's supreme confidence and sense of invincibility.

The song's addictive beat and catchy melody also make it a classic. It's no surprise that it became a massive hit and an instant dance floor filler. The lyrics have taken on a deeper significance over the years and have become a testament to resilience and never giving up, no matter how tough things get.

I was struggling to get a job in my MBA course. I had cleared a Group Discussion for a company mere hours ago, along with two other boys. It's night. I'm looking outside the hostel room window, far away at the other mountains (my college was on a hill). A gust of cold breeze is hitting my face.

I suddenly hear something. In one of the ground floor hostel rooms, a junior was playing Stayin' Alive on his laptop. I simply smiled while hearing the words, "Life's going nowhere, somebody help me."

3 weeks later, 2 of the 3 guys passed the company job interview and I was one of them. Incredible memory from a lost time. ❤
