The Way It Was
Bee Gees Lyrics

I don't know how, but nights get lonely now
They keep appearing in my eyes
Such a warm and tender glow
For just one moment I remember all
The love we had was never all that bad
There were smiles and there were tears
On that special starry night, with your arms around me
Held on tight

Wasn't that the way it was?
Two strangers reaching for a worthless cause
Wasn't that the love we shared?
Or just the restless years when no-one cared

I don't know why, it's hard to say goodbye
Or even justify the end
You meant so very much to me
Then to let you go, start my life again
The love we had was never all that bad
There were smiles and there were tears
Till that special summer day
When I reached out for you, you just walked away

Wasn't that the way it was?
Two strangers reaching for a worthless cause
Wasn't that the love we shared?
Or just the restless years when no-one cared

When you move it like you really know how to move me
I follow you wherever you go
I just wan

One of the most perfect love songs I have ever heard. My eyes still mist up when I hear it. Yes it is sentimental and mawkish but my goodness how I love it. Barry at his romantic best.

Raquel Mendoza

i agree

Teddy Sears

Best band in history, GIBB BROTHERS, here the best song along with love so right, from this wonderful albumCHILDREN OF THE WORLD

Héctor Ramos

Una obra maestra.

This brings back memories of listening to this amazing album in my room for hours and hours. How great life was then. Just me and the Brothers Gibb! All 4 of them!

William Gibson

Doesn't it put you in mind of "Words"? It really didn't fit on the album. It should have been on Odessa. Classic 1969 Bee Gees. I could be convinced that it was an out take from that sadly flawed album.

Joe Mayer

Overwhelmed by this. So much talent, emotion, beauty, love and harmony. Just blown away by these brothers

NiV Trn

Don’t be sad. She cares now.

Jenny Khamp

I feel so overwhelmed...beautiful
