Capio
Bel Canto Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Capio
Sera' la candidez
Sera' la nina
La historia pasa

Well. I'll love my life
Until the very hour
When I'll be broken
Into the cold

Sera' la candidez, la historia pasa
And another fall
why en el jardin, yeah
It will be told

Someone who'll end it all
Someone who'll fall
Someone who'll end it all
Somebody's fault

why en jardin, yeah

Overall Meaning

Bel Canto's song "Capio" is a hauntingly beautiful composition that evokes powerful emotions through its melancholic melody and cryptic lyrics. The song has a dream-like quality that suggests a narrative of innocence lost and a sense of foreboding doom. The opening lyrics, "Sera' la candidez/ Sera' la nina/ La historia pasa," are in Spanish and translate to "It will be innocence/ It will be the girl/ The story passes." The lines reflect the fleeting nature of life and how innocence ultimately gives way to the harsh realities of existence.

The next verse, "Well. I'll love my life/ Until the very hour/ When I'll be broken/ Into the cold," suggests a bleak perspective on life, where one lives with the knowledge that inevitably, all will meet their end. The refrain, "Sera' la candidez, la historia pasa/ And another fall, why en el jardin, yeah/ It will be told," implies that the "girl" mentioned earlier will be another victim of life's cruelty.

The repetition of "Someone who'll end it all/ Someone who'll fall/ Someone who'll end it all/ Somebody's fault" evoke the sense of inevitability, where someone is doomed to fail, and the fault lies with society, perhaps implying that the world is cruel and unforgiving. The final line, "why en jardin, yeah," adds to the overall mystery and ambiguity of the song, leaving the listener to contemplate the meaning behind these poetic lyrics.

Went back to re-visit and...yes, ridiculously good song. Goosebumps every time I listen. Harkens the days of Liz Fraser banging out a Buckley favorite with TMC. Perhaps sans the vibrato or staccato, or whatever. Just kinda epic, even as years have passed

Magnificent song, which made me think of Dead Can Dance when I discovered this in 1990, probably because they both share certain classical influences...Very solemn, moving.... I've loved it ever since... and was lucky enough to see them perform an extended version of this song on stage, back in 1992. The only time I ever saw Bel Canto on stage. I wish they had kept this direction... maybe in the next album...
