The debut album Simplicity was produced by Charlie Francis (REM, Turin Breaks) and released to critical acclaim in the UK in 2001.
Uncut magazine declaring Belasco “have bigger songs and bigger ambitions than the majority of new guitar acts. Watch out Coldplay!”
While Coldplay can still rest easy, Belasco have achieved a huge amount over the past five years. They have sold over 30,000 records across the world. Played gigs across the globe (150 in 2003 alone) including European festivals such as Isle Of Wight (UK), Haldern and Bochum Total (Germany), Alive (Belgium) and Music In My Head (Holland) with the likes of PJ Harvey, Cardigans, Paul Weller, Iggy Pop, Bright Eyes and Patti Smith.
In early 2005 this success culminated in the band signing a singles deal with Vertigo/Mercury (Razorlight, Thirteen Senses) and recorded two singles – “Something Between Us” and “Chloroform”. On its release, Something Between Us again receiving plaudits (the Guardian making it Single Of the Week) and the bands darker than dark video – produced by Nick Walters was playlisted on MTV2 UK. The video is also one of the first music videos added to the I-tunes new video purchase store in the US.
Unfortunately the band had a bad experience with Mercury (one of many small bands shown the darker side of the major labels) and the deal ended acrimoniously in early 2006.
Ironically 2006 has seen the band stepping up to the next level. The band had tracks added to the Hollywood film “Incubus” (starring Tara Reid) and EA Games Fifa Soccer 2007 video game. The bands music also featured several times on huge US show One Tree Hill. The Virgin/EMI compilation album Alternative Ballads II (released in Germany in early 2006) features Belasco’s “Breathe” alongside songs by Blur, Athlete, Radiohead and Nick Cave.
Throughout 2006 the band has also been working on new album “61”.
In The Garden

What I have done
But it makes me sad
What I have done for gain
I'm doing it on my own
Got to push through 'cos there's nobody home
And I will not, will not fail
Yeah, you're so clean
Yeah, you're so pure
What the big cheese wants
The big gun threw away
I'm doing it on my own
Got to push through 'cos there's nobody home
And I will not, will not fail
I've been lost
Yes I've been lost
For that you said
My head is in the garden
My garden's in the front of your head
And when we're all down, I'll burn it to the ground
And I want to be young
Swim in the red sun
And when we're all there, I'll throw
My arms in the air and shine
I'm doing it on my own
Got to push through 'cos there's nobody home
I'm doing it on my own
Got to push through 'cos there's nobody home
My head is in the garden (x13)
Belasco's song In The Garden depicts a protagonist who is going through a series of emotions that are contradictory in nature. The opening lines "It makes me proud, what I have done, but it makes me sad, what I have done for gain" represents the feeling of pride and regret at the same time. The singer is proud of their accomplishments but also regrets the fact that it has been achieved by compromising on their values.
The lines "I'm doing it on my own, got to push through 'cos there's nobody home, and I will not, will not fail" represent the sense of determination and perseverance despite facing challenges alone. The singer is determined to succeed and there is no room for failure. This is further emphasized with the repetition of the line, "I'm doing it on my own, got to push through”, which highlights the struggle to achieve success on their own.
The last verse "My head is in the garden, my garden's in the front of your head, and when we're all down, I'll burn it to the ground" represents a metaphorical conflict between the singer's inner thoughts and the outside world. The garden within their head refers to their thoughts, which makes them isolate themselves from the world. However, the burning of the garden to the ground shows that the singer is ready to face the consequences of their actions, and the possibility of starting anew by shedding their regrets.

it is like when u listen to a song u like, at some point the author diverts into different chord, rhythm ,than the one u had in your mind, which frustrates you, but you still enjoy the song. However this song is the very continuation of the perfect song i had in my head constantly humming, god. it is beautiful.
