The debut album Simplicity was produced by Charlie Francis (REM, Turin Breaks) and released to critical acclaim in the UK in 2001.
Uncut magazine declaring Belasco “have bigger songs and bigger ambitions than the majority of new guitar acts. Watch out Coldplay!”
While Coldplay can still rest easy, Belasco have achieved a huge amount over the past five years. They have sold over 30,000 records across the world. Played gigs across the globe (150 in 2003 alone) including European festivals such as Isle Of Wight (UK), Haldern and Bochum Total (Germany), Alive (Belgium) and Music In My Head (Holland) with the likes of PJ Harvey, Cardigans, Paul Weller, Iggy Pop, Bright Eyes and Patti Smith.
In early 2005 this success culminated in the band signing a singles deal with Vertigo/Mercury (Razorlight, Thirteen Senses) and recorded two singles – “Something Between Us” and “Chloroform”. On its release, Something Between Us again receiving plaudits (the Guardian making it Single Of the Week) and the bands darker than dark video – produced by Nick Walters was playlisted on MTV2 UK. The video is also one of the first music videos added to the I-tunes new video purchase store in the US.
Unfortunately the band had a bad experience with Mercury (one of many small bands shown the darker side of the major labels) and the deal ended acrimoniously in early 2006.
Ironically 2006 has seen the band stepping up to the next level. The band had tracks added to the Hollywood film “Incubus” (starring Tara Reid) and EA Games Fifa Soccer 2007 video game. The bands music also featured several times on huge US show One Tree Hill. The Virgin/EMI compilation album Alternative Ballads II (released in Germany in early 2006) features Belasco’s “Breathe” alongside songs by Blur, Athlete, Radiohead and Nick Cave.
Throughout 2006 the band has also been working on new album “61”.
Who Do You Love
Belasco Lyrics

Couldn't want for anymore,
Was it love that I was given,
I wanted to be sure.
I've never asked for anger
I needed to explore,
Yet I could live on nothing,
Is it me?
Who do you love?
Is it me?
I meet you at a tail,
In a dark and dirty room.
You were loyal to your master,
Who controlled your every move.
I led you to your freedom,
I gave you everything.
But I could live on nothing,
Who do you love?
Is it me?
Who do you love?
Is it me?
You got a life to give,
I've got a life to take,
We'll try to make things right,
There's nothing left to hate.
You've got a life to lose,
I see behind those eyes,
I've never meant to feel,
You've never meant to make your eyes
That stir a thousand stars
Where roses bloom
A jest of clouds,
Nothing ever grows,
Nothing ever grows.
If my worries were a fable
In your desperate little tale
We plead for your forgiveness
As I drag you to hell.
It was me who wanted more,
In a scene I caught you playing
Yes I could live on nothing.
Who do you love? 4x
The song "Who Do You Love" by Belasco talks about the uncertainty of love and how it can lead to feelings of confusion and doubt. The lyrics describe the singer's journey to finding love, and how it has affected their life. The first stanza talks about how the singer was happy as a child and had everything they needed, but they wanted to be sure if what they were given was love. The second stanza talks about how the singer met someone in a dark and dirty room who was loyal to their master and controlled by them. The singer led this person to their freedom and gave them everything they needed, but still wonders if they are loved in return.
The chorus of the song repeats the question "Who do you love?" multiple times, emphasizing the confusion and uncertainty surrounding love. The bridge talks about how the singer sees something special in the other person's eyes and how there is potential for growth and love, but nothing ever happens due to their doubts and worries.
The overall theme of the song is the struggle of finding love and how it can be a source of confusion and doubt, even when the other person is loyal and caring.
