Gone
Believer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The book reads my name, I've been issued a new life
Stupidity flows, the more you speak
Insanity grows, the more I think
Religious ideals, cross parallels
Static thoughts, swallowing me
Reality fades, time rules my life
Kaleidoscopic days, lost within cries
Confusion consumes, broken, I bleed
Static thoughts, swallowing me
Broken wing, horrific dream
Crippled mind, all I am is gone
The chorus of Believer's song Gone immediately sets the tone for the rest of the song with the melancholic first lyrics "I feel fine now, the past is gone." The lead singer is conveying that he is starting to move on from a difficult time in his life. He then sings "The book reads my name, I've been issued a new life," suggesting that he is moving on to a new chapter in his life. He feels fine and is ready to start anew.
The following verse suggests that the more he talks to others, the more he feels like they're not on the same page, or the same parallel as him. He feels he should think less about what others have to say and more about himself. He mentions "religious ideals," which could be an allusion to how people rely on systems designed by other people as guidance on how to live their lives. He then goes on to describe the feeling of "swallowing" his own thoughts.
The bridge is where the singer appears to feel lost in time, as if he's living in a kaleidoscope. He is consumed by confusion, feeling broken and bleeding from the wounds left by his past. In the final section of the song, he repeats the earlier sentiment of "swallowing me" and mournfully describes himself as a "broken wing" and "all I am is gone."
Overall, the song Gone is about an individual who has struggled through some tough times and is working to move on from them. However, it still leaves the listener with a sense of melancholy and despair, as the lyrics suggest that the singer is still grappling with the emotional scars left by their past.
