Vision Of You
Belinda Carlisle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Time moves a summer wind
I can see your face again
Was it such a tragedy
Being you, being me?

Smoke clears, the pictures fades
But I stay back in yesterday
All the strangers come and go
All of them will never know

Nobody's touch feels like your touch
Nobody's gets to me that much
Nobody's kiss moves me inside
And I have nowhere left to hide
Tell me what can I do?
I have a vision of you
Tell me what can I do
With this vision of you

Did I walk? Did you run?
What's the way to love someone?
Oh my Darling did we know
What it meant when we let go

How can a candle ever burn so bright?
Casting a shadow on my life

I am blinded by your light
Even without you

Overall Meaning

Belinda Carlisle's song "Vision Of You" is a nostalgic reflection on lost love. The opening lines "Time moves a summer wind, I can see your face again" create a wistful sense of longing and transport the listener to a memory of a past love. The lyrics go on to question whether the end of the relationship was truly a tragedy and express regret over not cherishing the love that was once shared.

As the song progresses, the lyrics convey the difficulty in moving on from this lost love. The lines "All the strangers come and go, all of them will never know" emphasize the uniqueness and irreplaceability of the love that was lost. The chorus repeats the plea to the lost love, "Tell me what can I do with this vision of you?" conveying the despair of not knowing how to move on or let go of this love.

The lyrics also contain striking imagery, such as "How can a candle ever burn so bright, casting a shadow on my life" and "I am blinded by your light, even without you inside." These lines create a vivid contrast between the brightness of the lost love and the darkness of the present.

Overall, "Vision Of You" is a poignant song that captures the complexity of emotions that accompany a lost love.

Despite being very young, I have only just found this incredible artist, I understand why a lot of people say the 80s music is way better than nowadays. Great song

Keep searching, there’s so much great music that’s just sitting there waiting for your generation to Discover. Whether it’s Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rap, Dance, R&B, Pop, hip-hop, heavy-metal, new age, Jazz, etc. As bad as social media and the internet can be. It’s also a window into the history of music, culture, visuals, dance, epic songs and albums, great artist from every genre of music started being mixed together. The 50s 60s started everything we now know. The 70s thru the early 2000s were a very special time. So many of our Great genres gave birth to a literal plethora of other types of music, that eventually merged together. Although I think there’s some great music these days. It’s just not the same where you were bombarded from every direction with music so different you and your friends hadn’t experienced anything like before. Good luck on finding more great artist and music.
