@0609kat same as my dad. My grandpa was very strict with manners and work ethic. Especially being the first born son, he was expected to do "men's chores" around the house, help out in their business by basically being my grandma's "kargador" and multiple sideline jobs when he was in college, all of that on top of having to maintain stellar grades in school. It's only now that he's in his late 50s that he gets to experience hanging out with his barkada.

My mother didn’t have her childhood too. She wasn’t allowed to play as a child or own a toy. She was forced to work at an early age. Back in her time in Philippines most parents (not all) would do that. When she went abroad to Japan to work she had abit of a freedom from her own mom and when she got her salary first she bought herself a barbie doll and a big mickey mouse stuff toy. She’s 53 now and still love stuff toys, dolls and anything child like theme cartoons or anime.

This made me cry because as a Filipino I know exactly what Bella Poarch is talking about. It's hard to open up about childhood traumas or child abuse to other Filipinos because if you tell them that you've been abused by your parents they're going to tell you that they've gone through worse things and that you should just suck it up cause they think that's how people are supposed to grow and be strong. Some Filipinos think that children can only be corrected through abuse without knowing that it is abuse. When you tell them that you've been beaten up by your parents over small things they will tell you that they've been beaten up too and that it's normal and some people even make jokes about the abuse that they've gone through just like the other Asians on the internet. They remind me of my siblings who are proud of my parents for being abusive to them. They literally say all the time, "If I was not beaten up by our parents I wouldn't be the strong person that I am today," "Children who are not beaten up by their parents grow up to be wayward, look at the kids nowadays," "When I become a parent, I'm going to do the same thing that our mom did to us." It's sooo fucked up because it is normalized. I remember going to school with a bleeding lip because I was slapped so hard that my ears rang and I was crying riding a jeep. When I was a child, my mom didn't just use a belt to beat my ass. She used to use wooden planks. I used to get recurring nightmares that my mom was a demonic monster and our house was hell and that my siblings were only laughing at me as I was being chased by our mom. My life was literally hell and that's how my subconscious mind also interpreted it yet nobody cared.

There are now more younger Filipinos who stand up against this abusive tradition but I think it would take a longer time before it is seen by the majority as something fvcked up.

Im so glad to know there are more filipinos opening up about their experiences, i was afraid to even just talk about it, because i taught that there weren't many filipinos going through the same thing as me, but no i was wrong, im filipino aswell, and its fucking horrible to see other filipinos getting treated like shit, ofc theres many other kids from different countries getting abused, but i didnt know that it was normalized, i just taught i was the only one experiencing it, another thing that i find funny about filipino parents, is that since most of them are catholic, they think that praying to God, or going to church, will get rid of their sins, but obviously it wont, after abusing your kid, neglecting them, and talking shit about your shitty life as a kid before, why dont you actually give your kid the life you never had but no, just pray to God, and all your sins will go away, it wont, the children will most likely grow up to abandon them, so honestly praying wont help get rid of your sins

Just learned about her a couple of days ago and just got halfway watching this video and it made me really angry to the point of almost crying. As someone who has abusive, toxic and narcissistic parents, i have never felt like i was able to relate to someone, and feeling like you have nobody, when you would rather be in school, even if you have no friends, than being at home, everytime i went to school, i was just grateful, i didnt have to be at home with them, i only had a few friends, but i would just walk around the school, when school ended, feeling free, even when i didn't have anyone at all, it was the best and worse feeling

most that has been controversial for her has always been proven to be a misunderstanding or ignorance she apologized for.

bella covered up her rising sun tattoo when she realized how offensive it was (she'd seen it a lot in hawaii on fashion, and was inspired by jhene aiko's tat) and apologized profusely. like literally got a tattoo cover up.

theres another instance where she made a post on FB "the day i met harambe" and everyone assumed the guy in the pic with her was black, so she was instantly labelled racist. long story short he was pacific islander, not black, and his military nickname was already harambe before she even met him.

@Kitty Kawaii Oh wow. I'm sorry about that. Personally, I have never experienced mania. My main states are "normal" and depressed. Hypomania is part of BPD for some people, but a true manic episode can mean other things, too, like bipolar and schizoaffective disorder. Idk if this person you know has ever sought help, but it seems like they need to be evaluated by a psychiatrist

I’m not saying that America is perfect, I’m well aware that it’s child protective service is pretty much a failure, but at least there IS a child protective service. A lot of developing countries like Philippines don’t have the capacity to build a system to help children, child sexual exploitation is a big problem there and the police can’t do anything without enlisting help from foreign countries because they are just under manned and under funded, which is why I think the American dad went there to marry and adopt children for slaves.
