Stand Down
Belle's Wake Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Round about midnight there was a...

Knocking at the door, it came and it went
You walked into the room and it's torn me since
But I can't survive on the fractions of a life
So please tell me when you're gone
So I know when I don't have to hide
Maybe there's a place we can share
Stand down with your hands and charms in the air
I know what you want but this can't be defied
You can't walk away and expect me to die

Stop baby, don't you move
Don't you worry bout where I'm going to
But we can carry on
You can stir the potion and mix the dust
But you can't conjure something now I can trust
Could there still be hope as the season dies
Would you be a saint if I believe the lies

Maybe there's a place in between
And I see what you are and what you want me to be
I know what you thought but this can't be denied
You can't hold the wheel and expect me to drive

I was building you a house
Somewhere in the clouds
Pushing through the crowd
Looking to be found
Seeing what they mean
Every thought's a dream
Waiting to arise
Dead until it dies
Maybe we're too old
Maybe we should hold
Baby I don't know
Steady as we go
Today could be the day
It never hurts to pray
And when you hear me say I'm leaving

Maybe there's a place we can share
Stand down with your hands and charms in the air
I know what you want but this must be goodbye

So take care with your love
And leave me to take care of mine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Belle's Wake's song "Stand Down" tells the story of a difficult and complicated relationship between two people who can't seem to reconcile their differences. The singer seems to be pleading with their partner to be more honest and upfront about their feelings, stating that they can't survive on just bits and pieces of a life. They are willing to share a place together and work things out, but they can't just let their partner walk away and expect them to die. The first verse mentions a knocking at the door at midnight, which could symbolize an unwelcome interruption or disturbance in the relationship. The singer acknowledges that they have been torn apart since their partner walked into the room, but they need more than just empty promises and half-truths to move forward.

The chorus offers a glimmer of hope that there might be a way for the two to come together and find a common ground. The singer is willing to carry on and work with their partner, but only if there is trust and honesty between them. They don't want to be held back or controlled by their partner, but they also don't want to be left behind. The second verse explores the idea that there might be a middle ground between the two extremes that the singer and their partner represent. They can see what their partner wants from them, but they can't just go along with it blindly. They need some assurance and affirmation that their feelings and desires are being respected.

Overall, "Stand Down" is a powerful ballad about the difficulties of love and relationships. It speaks to the struggles that many people face when trying to connect with someone else on a deeper level. The lyrics are haunting and poignant, and the melody is both melancholic and uplifting at the same time.

One of saddest and the most heartbreaking moments with Rumple and Belle was in 4x11 when she commanding rumple to leave storybrooke she said: FINALLY FACING THE TRUTH,

And rumple says: PLEASE PUT THE DAGGER DOWN AND LET ME EXPLAIN,

And then she says: NO IT’S MY TURN TO TALK DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME YOU SAVED MY LIFE YOU TRADED IT FOR ME I THOUGHT I SAW SOMETHING IN YOU SOMETHING GOOD WELL I FOUND THAT GAUNTLET TODAY AND THAT’S WHEN I FINALLY REALISED THAT ALL THE SIGNS I’D BEEN SEEING CORRECT YOU’D NEVER GIVE UP POWER FOR ME OR YOU NEVER HAVE YOU NEVER WILL

And he says: NO NO YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND,

And she says: NO YOU TOLD ME THAT GAUNTLET COULD LEAD YOU TO SOMEONE’S WEAKNESS TO THE THING THEY LOVED THE MOST WELL YOU KNOW WHERE IT LED ME RUMPLE TO THE REAL DAGGER YOUR TRUE LOVE IS YOUR POWER

And he says again: I LIKE THE POWER BUT THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH POWER NO ONE THAT MEANS THAT WE THAT WE CAN HAVE IT ALL,

And then she says this: I JUST WANTED YOU I WANTED TO BE CHOSEN I TRIED TO BE EVERYTHING FOR YOU RUMPLE BUT I WASN’T AND I LOST MY WAY TRYING TO HELP YOU FIND YOURSELF NOT ABLE,

And then Rumple says this:
PLEASE BELLE I MAKE IT UP TO YOU I’VE CHANGED ONCE BEFORE I CAN DO IT AGAIN,

And Bell says this:
YOU’VE NEVER CHANGED

And he says this with tears in his eyes: PLEASE!!!!

And then she says this to him:
NO!! IT’S TOO LATE ONCE I SAW THE MAN BEHIND THE BEAST NOW THERE’S ONLY A BEAST RUMPLESTILTSKIN I COMMAND YOU TO LEAVE STORYBROOKE,

And then he says heartbroken to her: BELLE NO PLEASE I WON’T BE ABLE TO COME BACK,

And she says heartbroken to him: I KNOW

And then he says this to her heartbroken: BELLE I DON’T WANT TO LOSE YOU,

And she says the most hardest thing she ever had to say to him:
YOU ALREADY HAVE,

Then he finally says this:
BELLE PLEASE!!!

He keeps calling on her but she is so heartbroken to even to look at him she had just lost her husband and everything he betrayed over and over again she had to do this for herself!!!!

Francisco Leyva Martin but before this battle, when Dark Emma commanded Merida made him brave. It wasn't succesed until Emma and Merida didn't make danger for Belle. Only protecting her and believing in her words about being a hero changed Rumple. But early soon he became the Dark One again.

Ya know a lot of people are "glad that rumple finally got what he deserved" but at the same time, I actually felt bad for Rumple...cuz let's face it, Rumple is an addict...and this is what addictive behavior does, it destroys families.. Granted, Rumple brought it upon himself but it's an addict's mentality... i've witnessed it, it's terrible. they'll do anything to score their next fix.
