That was back in 2007, and a lot has changed since then. Economies collapsed, house prices plummeted, jobs were lost and for some, record companies came and went. Second time around, Jamie’s new album ‘Battling Giants’ will be released on his own label, Flat Cap Records, in May 2009.
“I didn’t know it when I wrote it, but Battling Giants became the most relevant song on the new record. It now reflects where I am, making my own record the way I always wanted to – with amazing people I admire – and putting it out on my own label. I’m going my own way. Like a lot of people in the world, I’m facing a 2009 which poses as many questions as answers – with so much change in the music business and the world in general. But I’m also strangely happy and excited about it – and what’s more I just know I’m doing the right thing.” He muses, “We’re all battling giants now, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

RISE
Ben's Brother Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't just stand there
Open your eyes
Shame, shame, shame
On you
you got to try
Don't just sit there
Shame, shame, shame
Shame, shame, shame
On you
shame on you
you didn't get to the party
Missed the start of the show
An emotional virgin
Ten times in a row
its all just a wind up
But I'm starting to learn
That the sooner you sign up
The quicker the world turns
so take it from me
Hold on
'cause it gets
So much better
but you've gotta believe
So close
And there's more than one way
To heaven
you got to rise
Don't just stand there
Open your eyes
Shame, shame, shame
On you
you got to try
Don't you sit there
Wasting time
Shame, shame, shame
Shame, shame, shame
On you
shame on you
sin, sin, sin
That's what they
Spin, spin, spin
But if you don't rise up
Now that you care
Everyones out there
On our side
you got to rise
Don't just stand there
Open your eyes
Shame, shame, shame
On you
you got to try
Don't just sit there
Wasting time
Shame, shame, shame
Shame, shame, shame
On you
shame on you
Shame on you
you've got nothing
To lose
The song "Rise" by Ben's Brother is a powerful one that urges the listener to take action and make a change. The lyrics stress that we need to rise up and not just stand there, open our eyes, and try to make a difference. If we waste time and do nothing, then we should feel ashamed of ourselves. This shame is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the importance of taking action.
The second verse mentions missing the start of the show and being an emotional virgin ten times in a row. It suggests that we need to get out there and experience life to the fullest, and not just sit on the sidelines watching the world go by. The song stresses that it's all just a wind-up, meaning it's a game, but we need to learn to play it. Signing up and taking action will make the world turn more quickly.
The chorus repeats the same lyrics, urging us to rise up, open our eyes, and try to make a difference. The bridge tells us that there's more than one way to heaven, and we need to believe in ourselves and hold on because it gets so much better.
In summary, the song "Rise" is a call to action. It encourages us not to waste time, but to take risks, believe in ourselves, and make a change. If we don't rise up and try, we should feel ashamed of ourselves.
