He was a leading figure in the British alternative comedy movement of the 1980s, as a writer on such cult series as 'The Young Ones' and 'Blackadder' and as a successful stand-up comedian on stage and TV. He was a high-profile frontman of 1980s left-wing political satire.
Since then he has published over twelve novels and more lately become known for writing the smash hit musical We Will Rock You (2002) and Love Never Dies (2010), the sequel to Phantom of the Opera.

@AliceDelilahDude I'm confused, are you saying that the government is responsible for "woke propaganda", or that it isn't?
What I question, as I always have done, is the conservative mindset: a group of people so proud of their opposition to change and progress that they name themselves after it? Strangely, they're not the ones I trust to take the country forward, or improve people's lives. And if you're interested, neither is Starmer.
So was I "fishing for comments"...? Well, only in the sense that if you look in a fish pond you know there's gonna be fish. The "anti-woke", who cherish their misremembered childhood above the well-being of others, can always be counted on to latch onto the first snappy phrase they hear to describe things they don't like: because it's much easier to stir up hate against people if you feel you're doing it by proxy. I'm sure you think by hating an "idea", you're not discriminating. Nothing if not predictable!
Let's see, what are people calling "woke" these days? Non-white people on TV? Yep, they're as woke as the civil rights movement. Non-heterosexual people on TV? Yep, they're as woke as Oscar Wilde, George Michael or the ancient Romans. Transgender people on TV? Yep, they're as woke as Simone de Beauvoir, who knew there was a distinction between biological sex and acquired gender in the 1940s; it goes without saying that she's more of a feminist than J.K. Rowling will ever be!
So, @AliceDelilahDude...did you make it this far? I'm guessing not. If it's not "propaganda" then it's a "lecture". And if it's neither, you'll just pretend you've never seen it. Some people would try and stop the world turning if they could—fortunately, they're yet to realise that no amount of steaming and foot-stamping about "wokeness" (ie, the world) will make that happen. Maybe if you do, as I suspect, just believe everything you read, then this will be in your subconscious. Now wouldn't that be fun!

@Cashel Ó Conghaile 💚 You probably won't believe me when I say this but I really admire your tone. You're obviously someone who has very strong views and you put them across well and with passion. You didn't resort to insults (like I did frankly) and though I disagree with you on a number of issues, I'd happily debate anything with you because you seem like a truly decent person. OK, my disagreements: JK Rowling is hardly a hack. She is an incredibly intelligent lady who produced books that reinvigorated millions of childrens' love of reading. I'm personally not a fan but that's because I don't like the genre.
However, like a close friend of mine who shall remain nameless because she's in the public light and appears on numerous news programmes, she was sexually assaulted and does not want to share female only spaces with a biological man. I get that! And yes, most trans women are peaceful people who want to lead a peaceful happy life. But a VERY loud minority who have the support of very influential people in the media, politics etc, ARE aggressive and send the most horrendous threats to her for stating a biological fact. THAT is her "hate crime". To refuse to THINK what they tell her. Why on Earth would she want to share a changing room or toilet with a man who identifies as a woman? They may not, but may BE one of those trolls that have been so appalling.
My Godson, is a trans man. Its taking me time to get used to calling him Tyler because I've always called HER April. But I love him and support him as much as any of my other loved ones. My late friend (who I miss and still love like you couldn't imagine) was gay. And I made a point of giving him a kiss and a hug like my own brother. In fact some people thought we were an item and I NEVER disavowed them of this because if I'd said, "I'm straight, though!" I'd be indicating that I thought there was something wrong with BEING gay, which there isn't.
No LGBTQ has ever hurt me. And any LGBTQ person (providing they were cool with me) would be welcome in my home.
But I can't be told to THINK a person with a penis is anything other than a man. I'll call them what they wish out of respect but I can't change biological fact.

This is without doubt the best take down of the absolute shit show of a Government we have now. It takes a lot to make Labour supporters miss Thatcher but that’s where we are now. At least she had principles and a moral compass even if many of her policies did more harm than good.

Man i do love Ben Elton, he's unreplaceable and i thought this was better compared to the 1996 revival (except for Harry Hill sketches) and 2007 revival ''Saturday Live Again'' and he's great at making fun of politics, especially Liz Truss and Boris Johnson, but Boris is more of a liar.
This show should deserve to return by Saturday nights as ''Saturday Live'' just to not piss Gogglebox fans off about the change if Channel 4 renew it, even i'm not interested of that program.
