Let's get it crunk, we gon' have fun
Up on up in this dancerie
We got ya open, now ya floatin'
So you gots to dance for me
Don't need no hateration, holleration
In this dancerie
Let's get it percolatin', while you're waiting
So just dance for me

Come on everybody get on up
'Cause you know we gots to get it crunk
Mary J. is in the spot tonight
As I'mma make it feel alright (Make it feel alright)
Come on baby just party with me
Let loose and set your body free
Leave your situations at the door
So when you step inside jump on the floor

Let's get it crunk, we gon' have fun
Up on up in this dancerie
We got ya open, now ya floatin'
So you gots to dance for me
Don't need no hateration, holleration
In this dancerie
Let's get it percolatin', while you're waiting
So just dance for me

It's only gonna be about a matter of time
Before you get loose and start loose your mind
Cop you a drink, go head and rock your ice
'Cause we celebrating No More Drama in our life
With a great track pumpin', everybody's jumpin'
Goin ahead and twist your back and get your body bumpin'
I told you leave your situations at the door
So grab somebody and get your ass on the dance floor

Let's get it crunk, we gon' have fun
Up on up in this dancerie
We got ya open, now ya floatin'
So you gots to dance for me
Don't need no hateration, holleration
In this dancerie
Let's get it percolatin', while you're waiting
So just dance for me

We don't need, don't need, no haters
Just try to love one another
We just want why'all have a good time
No more drama in your life
Work real hard to make a dime
If you got beef, your problem, not mine
Leave all that BS outside
We're gonna celebrate all night
Let's have fun, tonight, no fights
Turn the great track way
Making you dance all night and I
Got some real heat for ya this time
Doesn't matter if you're white or black
Let's get crunk 'cause Mary's back

Let's get it crunk, we gon' have fun
Up on up in this dancerie
We got ya open, now ya floatin'
So you gots to dance for me
Don't need no hateration, holleration
In this dancerie

Let's get it percolatin', while you're waiting
So just dance for me

Overall Meaning

The song 'Family' by Ben Harney/Cleavant Derricks/J. Holliday/Loretta Devine/Obba Babatunde/Sheryl Lee Ralph is a celebration of unity and love within a family-like community. The song encourages everyone to let go of their worries and problems, and just have fun dancing and enjoying each other's company. The opening lines urge the audience to let loose and dance in the "dancerie," a club or party atmosphere. There is no need for any negative energy, such as "hateration" or "holleration," and everyone should just dance and enjoy the music.

The second verse addresses a theme of overcoming adversity and moving on from drama in life. The song suggests that everyone can celebrate together and leave their troubles outside. The chorus repeats, encouraging everyone to dance and let go of any negativity they may have been feeling. The lyrics, although simple, have a powerful message promoting love, acceptance, and the importance of community.

I have heard so many great renditions of this song, but Jennifer Holiday is the blueprint! She sung and acted with her whole entire everything, and in 2020 it still brings me to tears.....just MASTERFUL!!!

@Percussiongurl

It’s a master class. Range, style, breathe control, emotion I could go on.

@taqaripayne8122

Hit the hammer on the nail with that one

@GenaGilder

Jennifer Hudson did the the damn thang, but there’s nothing like seeing the original. ❤

@carolynfinkelmeier1227

And to think she did this 10 times a week for years !!!!!!!

@bradleyscarton3931

Broadway does 8 shows a week, not 10. And yes, in the beginning Jennifer did do this 8 shows a week, but within a few months the vocal demands of the role took its toll on her voice and understudies went on a lot for her after she began to blow out her voice. When she went to LA to do the show, she only did the evening shows because it was too much for her vocally to do that many shows. The matinees were done by her understudy, Lillias White, and within a few months Jennifer was blowing out her voice to the point that Lillias was doing just as many shows as her.

@NunuBird
