Seven Nation Army
Ben L´Oncle Soul Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back

And I'm talking to myself at night
Because I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette

And the message coming from my eyes
Says leave it alone
Oh, oh leave it alone
Leave it alone, oh, yeah
Oh leave it alone

Don't want to hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the hounds of hell

And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you, yeah
And that ain't what you wanna hear
But that's what I'll do

And a feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home
Find a home
Find a home, yeah yeah
Find a home
Come on

And a feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home
Find a home

Go back home, oh
Go back home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ben L'Oncle Soul's "Seven Nation Army" depict a person who is determined to overcome any obstacle that comes their way. The opening line, "I'm gonna fight 'em off", sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer declares that not even a seven nation army can hold them back, revealing an unwavering determination to succeed. The second line, "They're gonna rip it off, taking their time right behind my back", suggests that there are people or forces trying to sabotage the singer's efforts.

The verse continues with the singer talking to themselves at night, unable to forget whatever it is that's troubling them. The line "Behind a cigarette" adds a layer of symbolism, perhaps implying that the singer is using smoking as a crutch to deal with stress. The chorus then arrives, with a message coming from the singer's eyes telling others to leave them alone. This conveys a sense of defiance, as if the singer is saying, "Don't mess with me, I'm doing my own thing."

The next verse, "Don't want to hear about it, every single one's got a story to tell, everyone knows about it from the Queen of England to the hounds of hell", suggests that the singer is tired of hearing other people's opinions and advice. They then declare that if they catch any negativity coming their way, they'll fight back. The final lines of the song repeat the phrase "find a home" several times, perhaps suggesting that the singer is looking for a place of peace and belonging.

I grew up on this version of the song. 7 years after hearing it for the first time, and I still think it’s the best version.

I don't think I have enough thumbs for this version... Awesome.

This is an awesome version. I would not say this is better or worse than the original White Stripes. They are both awesome versions in their own right and for different reasons. White Stripes (2003), Ben L'ONCLE Soul (2010), Marcus Collins (2012) All three are awesome versions

My favorite is Nostalgia '77 feat. Alice Russell. But that's the mark of a great song, when it can spawn amazing covers
