He began his career in theater, gaining notoriety in the Broadway productions of The Book of Mormon (2012–2013) and playing the title character in the critically acclaimed stage play Dear Evan Hansen (2015–2017), for which he won multiple awards including the 2017 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and the 2018 Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program, alongside the Dear Evan Hansen cast.
Platt's film credits include roles in Pitch Perfect (2012), Pitch Perfect 2 (2015), and Ricki and the Flash (2015).
In 2019, Platt released his debut album titled Sing To Me Instead, the released was followed by the Sing To Me Instead concert tour. The last tour date was filmed from his sold-out show at Radio City Music Hall for a future release by Netflix. Platt also released the stand-alone single titled Rain.
He currently stars in the Netflix TV show The Politician, for which he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2019. I was diagnosed with a very rare cancer and I had to have aggressive treatment. It changed me in so many ways. One thing I can’t get over is figuring out my funeral and messages to my daughter. I did get better and then had to recover from everything, chemo, radiation, surgery, and so on.. This album helped me so much. It had songs that felt like a lot of things I wanted to say. I’ve loved this ever since it came out as I’ve been a fan of Ben’s for years. And I’d just like to say thank you to this song for truly helping me so much.

My health started going downhill when I was 10, and now 6 years later I’m severely ill and disabled. I’ve lost all of my teenage years and I’m likely to not be here much longer. When I was 14 I was very depressed about my situation and was waiting for it to improve because I thought that was the only way for me to be happy. Then I heard this song and realised that that outlook would only bring along more pain and hurt, since I’m incurable.

So I decided to make the most of the present and enjoy what little I have left. And whilst being bedbound and living in hospital, I taught myself all my GCSE’s without the help of teachers and achieved A*’s, I set up my own online charity to help others, I’ve read hundreds of books, and I’m also now fluent in 4 languages. So now I know if I do end up losing the fight that my short life hasn’t been a waste and I won’t be able to regret anything. Ive defied everyone’s expectations of what is possible for me to do and I intend to carry on :)

This can be anything from changing jobs, going on a trip, taking a chance on someone you like, anything that might be slightly outside your comfort zone. If you only wonder and think about the could-have-been, you become comfortable with that way of thinking and eventually, you stop thinking about taking a chance on something that could change your life, letting the opportunity pass you by. But he's saying life is short and you should act on your sense of wonder.

I went to my ex’s Summer Concert at their school this year, and one of older students sung this and it’s taken me 4 months to find what the song was.

My dad and I were on a 2-hour car ride when this song played on the radio. My dad and I grew apart, so our hearts were very distant. There are very little things i know we have in common---and fortunately, one of them is music. The ride was so quiet until this song strucked the silence. He asked me if i know the song, i didnt, so i record it using my phone instead to find it later. Months had pass and it was only now when i had the time to search the lyrics and it brought me to this masterpiece! No regrets! I'm going to share it with my dad and hopefully, we'll grew closer----or at least, he'll love the music as much as i love it.

This made me more emotional than I already am rn. I stopped playing the piano after my grandpa had a stroke and he couldn't teach me anymore (like 5 years ago). I kept telling him then that I would become a neurosurgeon and I will help him then he can continue to teach me, I told him he should wait for me. I even joked that he would only be waiting for about 14 more years. He died last year and I couldn't touch see or even hear a piano without even thinking of him. But recently I brought my first piano (the one he bought for me) to my dorm so I can play it again. I still can't play a proper piece without tearing up after. I just wanna go back in time and enjoy it once again.
