Tear It Out
Ben Zing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You must have had a lot of time to eat your cake
Don't you think you can have it now?
You must have felt a thousand highs and each was kind
Don't you think you can stare me down?
I challenge you to drink the milk you spilled
A heart in hope will fall apart when willed

You must have had a dream or two and satisfied
Don't you think you can conjure them?
You must have had a million guys to show you pain
Don't you think you could shake their hands
I challenge you to figure out the truth
A picture and a spoiling wasted youth

Tear it out, there must be three of us
Show me how you know it can't be
Finding out our love was none of us
Show me how it's so
You can't be strong
But you're always right

No you can't be strong
But you're always right

Overall Meaning

In "Tear It Out" by Ben Zing, the singer is challenging their former lover to acknowledge and face their mistakes. The lyrics are filled with sarcastic jabs and challenges aimed at the ex-lover. The first verse, "You must have had a lot of time to eat your cake. Don't you think you can have it now? You must have felt a thousand highs and each was kind. Don't you think you can stare me down?" suggests that the ex-lover has enjoyed their freedom since the breakup, but now the singer is challenging them to face the consequences of their actions. The singer challenges their ex to "drink the milk you spilled," which could mean that the ex must confront their mistakes and take responsibility for them.

In the second verse, the singer continues to challenge their ex to face their past, saying "You must have had a dream or two and satisfied. Don't you think you can conjure them? You must have had a million guys to show you pain. Don't you think you could shake their hands?" The singer is suggesting that the ex has moved on from them and has had other relationships in which they've experienced pain. The singer boldly challenges their ex to "figure out the truth" and confront their "spoiling wasted youth."

The chorus of the song, "Tear it out, there must be three of us. Show me how you know it can't be. Finding out our love was none of us. Show me how it's so. You can't be strong, but you're always right," implies that the ex has broken the singer's trust and believes they are right in doing so. The line, "there must be three of us," could be interpreted in different ways but perhaps implies that there were three people involved in the relationship: the singer, the ex, and the ex's ego.

Out of the thousands Pollard songs, this one is truly a hidden gem

kingbadger

I wanna keep you happy
I wanna teach you right from wrong
I wanna keep you near me
Here in a place where you belong

I won't hit you
I won't hurt you
I won't keep you from
The people that you trust
With faces that look just
Like us

I look into the future
Made up my mind and claimed my ground
Don't ever let you too far
Just be content with what we've found

Like statues that will never ever rust
I'm telling you now
We'll never run out
If you are my friend
If I've always got you
Then I'll never be blue
Love me 'til the end
The day is decided
And we'll be united
You know
