O sol nascendo na lagoa do Abaeté
O amor de uma mulher da Bahia
Ah, Bahia
Meu Brasil inteiro proclama Caymmi,
Caetano, Gal, Bethânia e Gil da Bahia
De igrejas, baianas bonitas, do acarajé
A gente sempre quer a Bahia
É que a Bahia vive como a natureza
Meu Senhor do Bonfim, Bahia é uma beleza
É que a Bahia vive como a natureza
Meu Senhor do Bonfim, Bahia é uma beleza
Ah, Bahia
Meu Brasil inteiro proclama Caymmi,
Caetano, Gal, Bethânia e Gil da Bahia
Ah, Bahia
De igrejas, baianas bonitas, do acarajé
A gente sempre quer a Bahia
É que a Bahia vive como a natureza
Meu Senhor do Bonfim, Bahia é uma beleza
É que a Bahia vive como a natureza
Meu Senhor do Bonfim, Bahia é uma beleza
The song "Bahia" by Benito Di Paula is a tribute to the Brazilian state of Bahia, known for its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant music scene. The first verse begins with a serene image of the sun rising over the Abaeté lagoon, a picturesque spot in the city of Salvador. The second line is a nod to the allure of the women of Bahia, who are celebrated for their beauty, sensuality, and charisma.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the cultural significance of Bahia within Brazil, mentioning some of the state's most iconic musical figures, including Dorival Caymmi, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Maria Bethânia, and Gilberto Gil. The names of these artists evoke a sense of pride and admiration, reflecting the deep respect that many Brazilians have for the creative contributions of Bahia to the country's artistic legacy.
The third verse highlights some of the unique elements that make Bahia distinct, such as its historic churches, strikingly beautiful women in traditional dress, and delicious street food like acarajé, a savory fritter made from black-eyed peas. The final lines of the song speak to the ineffable quality that makes Bahia so alluring, likening it to the beauty of nature itself and calling upon the divine spirit of the Senhor do Bonfim, a Catholic devotion that is deeply rooted in Bahian culture.
