The group was active from 1994 to 2005. They never announced their split, but seemed to have silently disappeared by 2006.
Benjamin B. was founded as a three-piece: Scholtens, Barbara Lampe (bass) and Michel Weber (drums). Dutch indie label, Excelsior Recordings, signed them after having heard their self-titled 1995 début demo album. Their début EP for Excelsior came out in late 1996. It was formally self-titled, but became known as the Cherry Blossom EP, after the opening song and the picture of cherry blossom on the cover.
1997 saw the release of the band's first full-length album, The Comfort of Replay, to good reviews but disappointing sales in comparison to more succesful fellow 'Excelsior bands' including Daryll-Ann, Johan and Caesar.
With Vincent van Vondel as its new bassist (following the departure of Barbara Lampe) and guitarist/pianist, Nico B., as a fourth group member, the band recorded a sophomore album, Instant Art, which was released in 1999, once again a critical success but a commercial failure.
The band seemed to have folded in 2000, but re-surfaced in 2001. Benjamin B. uploaded a monthly cover song on their website and, in 2003, started working on their third album, which was turned down by Excelsior Recordings, but eventually released on Living Room Records, entitled Tired Of The Moon (2004). At this point Benjamin B. had become a six-piece, following the arrival of Eddy Scholtens (guitars, keyboards) and René Asschert (drums).
2005 saw a Benjamin B. contribution to a compilation album entitled 'Schaamte en Woede' ('Shame and Anger'). This song, Yolk, was the last sign of life from Benjamin B. Current status: "inactive"...
In November 2020 Benjamin B's début demo album, Benjamin B. (1995), finally got an 'official' release on CD, LP and cassette, thru Excelsior Recordings. A Facebook page and Bandcamp profile for the band were launched.

Fall
Now the dark begins to rise
Save your breath, it's far from over
Leave the lost and dead behind
Now's your chance to run for cover
I don't wanna change the world
I just wanna leave it colder
Light the fuse and burn it up
Take the path that leads to nowhere
All is lost again
But I'm not giving in
I will not bow
I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall
I will not fade
I will take your breath away
Fall
Watch the end through dying eyes
Now the dark is taking over
Show me where forever dies
Take the fall and run to Heaven
All is lost again
But I'm not giving in
I will not bow
I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall
I will not fade
I will take your breath away
And I'll survive, paranoid
I have lost the will to change
And I am not proud, cold-blooded fake
I will shut the world away
Open your eyes
I will not bow
I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall
I will not fade
I will take your breath away
And I'll survive, paranoid
I have lost the will to change
And I am not proud, cold-blooded fake
I will shut the world away
Fall

[Intro]
Fall!
[Verse 1]
Now the dark begins to rise
Save your breath, it's far from over
Leave the lost and dead behind
Now's your chance to run for cover
I don't want to change the world
I just want to leave it colder
Light the fuse and burn it up
Take the path that leads to nowhere
All is lost again, but I'm not giving in
[Chorus]
I will not bow, I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall, I will not fade
I will take your breath away
Fall!
[Verse 2]
Watch the end through dying eyes
Now the dark is taking over
Show me where forever dies
Take the fall and run to heaven
All is lost again, but I'm not giving in
[Chorus]
I will not bow, I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall, I will not fade
I will take your breath away
And I'll survive, paranoid
I have lost the will to change
And I am not proud, cold blooded fate
I will shut the world away
I will not!
[Chorus]
I will not bow, I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall, I will not fade
I will take your breath away
And I'll survive, paranoid
I have lost the will to change
And I am not proud, cold blooded fate
I will shut the world away
Fall!
"I Will Not Bow" is the first single from Breaking Benjamin's 2009 album "Dear Agony." This was featured in the ending credits of the Bruce Willis' film "Surrogates." This song was not written specifically for the film, but according to drummer Chad Szeliga, "Ben sent a few songs to our record label, Hollywood Records," which is owned by Disney, who then decided they "wanted a Breaking Benjamin song for this movie." The song was also being used heavily on MLB Network as lead-in and lead-out music during the 2010 MLB postseason.
"I Will Not Bow" debuted at number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the band's highest charting song and first and only top 40 hit on the chart. It has reached number one on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs and Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks charts and number five on the Alternative Songs chart. AOL rated this song as the number one rock song of 2009, beating out such songs as "New Divide" by Linkin Park, "Break" by Three Days Grace and "Again" by Flyleaf.
