He first came to the music industry's attention with his collaboration with, and arrangements for, Keren Ann and his sister Coralie Clément. Finally earning a solo contract after many years of struggle, Biolay released his debut album, Rose Kennedy, in 2002. A concept album, Rose Kennedy looks at early 1960s America through the cataractic eyes of the late matriarch, who went from attending dinner parties to suffering the assassination of two of her sons.
Next up was Négatif, a double CD full of sometimes violent imagery surrounding a group of drifters, which included a disaffected, oddly sympathetic, american named Billy Bob. Biolay released two albums in 2005, A L'origine (translated: In The Beginning) is a darker, denser work than his previous outings, while Home is a light, sunny duet album with his wife, started when they noticed that they needed good road trip CD to listen to while on vacation. He has also written film scores, songs and arrangements for such beloved french stars as Francoise Hardy, Juliette Greco and Henri Salvador.
He worked with Elodie Frégé on her second album Le Jeu des 7 erreurs
(including lead single "La Ceinture") which was released in autumn 2006.

Un jour,j'ai entendu une interview de Françoise Hardy.
Il y a 15 ans à peu prés....
Cette grande dame a dit à propos de Benjamyn Biolay :
Je n'ai jamais rien entendu d'aussi magnifique depuis Serge Gainsgourg....
Elle parlait de Pallermo Hollywood et La Superbe....
Sachant que cette femme connait Jacques D et Serge G par Coeur,
Et qu'elle a cotoyé les plus grands chanteurs et compositeurs de cette planête,
David Bowie ou Mick Jagger.....entre autres....
Je considère cette remarque comme un très très beau compliment.

Il y a des albums comme la superbe et le suivant que je ne connais pas trop. Sinon j'aime tout ce que fait BB même s'il y a des chansons que j'aime moins comme le single précédent qui a plus l'allure d'un tube de varietoche qu'une bonne chanson. Mais je pense que BB était peut-être obligé de faire un disque qui soit disque d'or assez rapidement de par son contrat avec la maison de disques. Mis à part ça, BB est un génie ce qui veut dire qu'il ne fait pas de tubes mais de bonnes chansons que nous prenons plaisir à écouter et qui sont à des années lumières d'une "variethomanie" et d'une "varietorchon" qui polluent plus ou moins les radios FM.

aujourd'hui je me surprend à devenir fan de benjamin biolay , après "comment est ta peine" que j'adore, ce matin j'entends pour la première fois ce titre sur RTL et en une seule écoute de cette chanson j'ai aimé celle-ci.
Ce qui ne m'arrive pas souvent mais quand j'ai entendu la mélodie, elle m'est restée dans la tête toute la matinée!
