Right on You
Benjamin Booker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll be damned if I don't get what I want
Take it now while I have the chance
Right now, I can only think for one
It's right on you, right on you, right on you
It's right on you, yeah, it's right on you
Yeah, it's right on you
Block those keys or G and T's
It's like everything I touch is gold
I'll be fine, stop by, twenty-five
They say kids these days will live forever
It's right on you, right on you, right on you
It's right on you, yeah, it's right on you
Yeah, it's right on you
Death is sad to im-, is sad to im-
Is sad to imagine
Death is sad to im-, is sad to im-
Is sad to imagine
It's right on you, right on you, right on you
It's right on you, yeah, it's right on you
Yeah, it's right on you
In Benjamin Booker's song Right on You, the lyrics speak to a sense of selfishness and the desire to take what one wants without regard for others. The opening lines suggest a personal drive for success at any cost, with the singer expressing the view that they will be "damned" if they do not get what they want. This theme continues throughout the song, with the repeated lines "right on you" suggesting a focus on personal gain and a willingness to take advantage of others.
The second verse of the song introduces the idea that the singer has been lucky in life, seemingly "touching gold" with all they do. They express the view that they will be "fine" regardless of what happens, finishing with a line that suggests a sense of invincibility - "they say kids these days will live forever". However, the final verse of the song brings with it a more melancholic tone, as the idea of death is introduced. The lyrics suggest that death is something that is difficult to imagine or accept, and the repeated line "it's right on you" suggests that no matter what one does in life, ultimately death is something that will catch up with us all.
