Maliphathwe ngobungcwele igama lakho.
Umbuso wakho mawufike.
Intando yakho mayenziwe emhlabeni njengasezulwini.
Awusiphe namhla isinkwa sethu semihla ngemihla.
Usithethelele izono zethu
njengoba nathi sibathethelela abasonayo.
Ungasingenisi ekulingweni
Amen.
The lyrics of Benjamin Dube's song "Baba Wethu" are a prayer to God which reflects the singer's belief in a higher power that governs the universe. The song opens by addressing God as "our father who art in heaven" and calling on the singer's name to be sanctified in accordance with God's will. The second line of the song expresses the singer's hope that God's kingdom will come, suggesting that the singer sees God's governance as a necessary and desirable force in the world.
The next line of the song speaks to the singer's belief that God has a plan for humanity, both in heaven and on earth, and that this plan is being implemented. The fourth line of the song is a call for God to provide for humanity's basic needs, specifically for the sustenance required to live from day to day. The following lines acknowledge human sin and the singer's hope that God will forgive these sins, not only for the singer but for all humanity. The last line of the song is a statement of faith in God's power to save humanity from the evils in the world.
