In 2011, Leftwich released his debut album, "Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm," produced by Ian Grimble. The album achieved commercial success, peaking at number 35 on the UK charts. Critically acclaimed, it was praised by The Fly as a "majestic debut" and received positive reviews from publications like The Skinny and the Sunday Express, with the latter describing it as "lovely." Songs such as "Shine" gained popularity, becoming Spotify's "Most addictive track of 2014" and accumulating over 150 million global Spotify plays. Additionally, "Atlas Hands" was featured in the Zillow TV commercial titled "Lake House" in 2015. During the same year, Leftwich co-wrote the song "Grow" with British artist Frances, which was featured in an Amazon UK TV advert.
Leftwich's second album, "After the Rain," was released in August 2016. Following the album's release, he embarked on an extensive tour from April 2016 to August 2017, performing songs from both his second album and his debut. The tour covered various countries, including the UK, Canada, USA, China, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and several Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm
Benjamin Francis Leftwich Lyrics

You've got a cold heart
Don’t you wanna spend
more time 'round here?
I ran out through the garden
Ended up by your home
With broken arms and stolen charms
Don’t you love me, yeah?
Don’t you wanna be my sky?
If you trust me, yeah
We won’t ever have to fight
We are not departed
From the place in which we started
We just got up on the bridge
So we could see it glow
The things that we have left in
The cities which we've slept in
The coming of the winter on the fields
Don’t you love me, yeah?
Don’t you wanna be my sky?
If you trust me, yeah
We won’t ever have to fight
This is just the start
You've got a cold heart,
Don’t you wanna spend
More time 'round here?
The lyrics of Benjamin Francis Leftwich’s song “Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm” convey a sense of longing and the desire to connect with someone who has resisted to open up their heart. The first verse seems to address the person directly, telling them that this is only the beginning of whatever relationship they might have and that they need more time together. The singer then describes a scene where they end up near the person’s home by coincidence, but they are not entirely innocent, as they admit to having “broken arms and stolen charms.” They knew the person was not alone, which hints at the possibility of a love triangle, adding a layer of complexity to the story.
In the second verse, the singer is looking back at the places they have visited, the things they have experienced, and the memories that they have left behind. They are aware that time is fleeting and that winter is coming, which is a metaphor for an ending or a turning point in their lives. The bridge serves as a metaphor for the moment of introspection, giving them a new perspective on their journey together. The chorus underlines the need for trust, love, and understanding, and the hope that they will never have to fight and that their love will endure.

This reminds me of flying through the night sky, walking the dog through the park with a boyfriend, naming stars with a loved one and fast-paced ballroom dancing in the beauty of the moonlight and general happiness.

Mr Benjamin, your music is sensitive and beautiful. I listen to this particular song again and again and I have never fallen in love, but through this I feel as if I have. When I listen to music I don't particularly pay attention to the lyrics ( because the melody subconsciously lets the words wash over me ), but with yours I am inclined to remember them. On lonely nights home, this line plays again and again, "Don't you love me, don't you wanna be my sky." Please keep making music.
