A Drowning in Paris
Benn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So come and kill with me tonight...
the zeppelins they light up the sky...
and all I see are yellow eyes!
So won't you kill with me tonight?
Je suis de guetter parler horror qui je vous...
the horror's in you.
And it burns...
and it burns...
and it burns...
and we'll burn them down.
We'll burn them all to the ground!
Paris is on fire!
Sound the alarms!
And we'll watch them burn!
Paris is on fire!
Sound the alarms!
And we'll watch them burn!
Please let me go!
I will never let you go...
down the rabbit hole!
There's nothing left for us to say...
so au revoir moncher don't wait.
Just run until your legs, they break.
And I can feel it in my veins...
my body, it just starts to break down in this rabbit hole I made!
And it burns...
and it burns...
and it burns...
and we'll burn them down.
We'll burn them all to the ground!
Paris is on fire!
Sound the alarms!
And we'll watch them burn!
Paris is on fire!
Sound the alarms!
And we'll watch them burn!
The year is 1966...
I've lived a life full of anguish.
As I look into the heavens...
I feel the heat swallow me from below.
I am as alive now as I ever will be.
I will return with an army of fallen heroes.
I will return with an army of shadows.
Paris is on fire.
Sound the alarms.
And we'll watch them burn, down.
Paris is on fire!
Sound the alarms!
And we'll watch them burn!
Paris is on fire!
Sound the alarms!
And we'll watch them burn!
Paris is on fire!
Sound the alarms!
And we'll watch them burn!
Paris is on fire!
Sound the alarms!
And we'll watch them burn!

Please let me go!
I will never let you go!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Benn's song "A Drowning in Paris" are open to interpretation, but it seems to be a narrative of destruction and chaos. The first line, "so come and kill with me tonight," sets a violent and apocalyptic tone. The mention of zeppelins lighting up the sky suggests an aerial attack on the city of Paris. The repetition of "and it burns" could refer to the physical destruction of the city and the emotional turmoil of the singer.

There are also references to the horror genre, with the French phrase "Je suis de guetter parler horror qui je vous" translating to "I am waiting to talk horror with you." The singer seems to be entrenched in this horror, possibly indicating a descent into madness. The line "there's nothing left for us to say" could also suggest a hopeless situation.

The final part of the song introduces a new character, someone who has lived a life of anguish and plans to return with an army of shadows. Whether this is a literal or metaphorical army is open to interpretation. The repeated phrase "Paris is on fire, sound the alarms" underscores the sense of destruction and chaos. Overall, the song seems to be a chaotic and emotional exploration of violence, horror, and destruction.

Why is Benn so good at making choruses? It’s so beautiful

COYS Fan44

There was something so special about the Black Ops era of zombies... never been replicated and doubt it ever will. PTG was at its absolute best as well. Great times

Fowlmowf

Shiiiit man, the viral, GK Nova, the doves and crows rhetoric. Shit was sweet.

GHXSTLEADER

The next gen ruined zombies

The Meh

Well now I know the French word I was confused about in the original. Damn, Benn, good shit indeed.

Honestly, this sounds the most unchanged to me... which, thank god, the original was great. But you did add a good lot with this iteration too, and I like that. Makes the song a whole new level of atmospheric.

“ I am disgusted by the horrors that I saw”

Slowly revealing lore, eh Benn?

Trust The Shooters

This song is still one of the best off album. The different styles and blends are so beautiful.

Alexnatoe

This remake is amazing, it took all the great aspects of the original and removed all the subpar aspects.

G Flynn

I preferd the original chorus..we'll watch them burn... sounded like it had more urgency

He just didn’t predict origins. He predicted mankind’s destruction of Notre Dame..
