Dance The Pain Away
Benny Benassi(베니 베나씨) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I’ll take my time
Let the tears fall down
From my face
Wash the pain away
We’re all speeding
Lost in this race
And my heart’s in a hearse
Can we put it in reverse, babe

Cause I can’t even feel the drum and bass
It’s drowned out by the beat my heart makes
I hear that song but something is wrong
My mind’s a million miles away

Ohh, Everybody’s going to the floor
Maybe I don’t want to dance anymore
Don’t want to dance anymore
How can you dance the pain away
How can you dance the pain away
Oh dance the pain away
I can’t dance the pain away
How can you dance the pain away
How can you dance the pain away
Oh dance the pain away
I can’t dance the pain away

Touch that dial
I’m changing the station
Cause I can’t smile
Like everyone else
Play my sad song
In heavy rotation
I won’t go out
I’m trying to save myself

I can’t even feel the drum and bass
It’s drowned out by the beat my heart makes
I hear that song but something is wrong
My mind’s a million miles away

Ohh, Everybody’s going to the floor
Maybe I don’t want to dance anymore
Don’t want to dance anymore
How can you dance the pain away
How can you dance the pain away
Oh dance the pain away
I can’t dance the pain away
How can you dance the pain away
How can you dance the pain away
Oh dance the pain away
I can’t dance the pain away

I can’t dance tonight
Oh everybody’s movin but I’m tired
I can’t dance tonight
I try to keep it movin but I but I but I

I can’t dance the pain away

I can’t dance the pain away
I can’t dance the pain

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Benny Benassi's song "Dance the Pain Away" featuring John Legend involve a sense of sadness and defeat that is being masked by the prospect of dancing, partying and socializing. The singer expresses their disillusionment with the society around them that glorifies the frenzy of such occasions, but can't seem to fathom their own participation in this. The singer tries to evade the forces that push them into these social gatherings, where they are expected to let their sorrows dissipate, and instead, turn towards their inner self, in a bid to seek solace.

The chorus of the song, "How can you dance the pain away?" conveys the idea that dancing might be a short-lived remedy for people struggling with emotional pain, but never a permanent solution. The singer depicts how they feel closed off after experiencing a heartbreak, with the sound of music and the hustle of the crowd failing to provide any respite. The line "I can't even feel the drum and bass, it's drowned out by the beat my heart makes," is especially poignant, as it denotes the message from the singer's heart that can't be ignored any longer.

In conclusion, the song is a subtle reminder to look inwardly when struggling with internal conflict, rather than trying to flee from it by engaging in endless social affiliations.

I love John legend but something about his voice and the song sounds like a disconnect. The overall execution of the song sounds like something is missing.
