The inspiration for Sugarfoot Stomp came from Oliver's recording of Dippermouth Blues (Louis Armstrong played with Oliver at the time, and Dippermouth was one of Louis' nicknames). When Armstrong joined Fletcher Henderson's group, they wanted a version of the tune they could play, so they rearranged it, put it in a different key, and gave Louis King Oliver's solo. What's interesting is that Armstrong always had trouble with using plunger mutes, so his solo doesn't have the wah wah effect that Oliver produced.
