The music they played had its roots in the Southern jazz forms of ragtime and Dixieland, while its structure adhered more to arranged music than its more improvisational jazz counterparts. On August 21, 1935, Benny's band played the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles. The gig was sensational and marked the beginning of the years that Benny would reign as King: the Swing Era.

Lyrics:
Load up on guns, bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over-bored and self-assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
Yeah, hey
I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
Yeah, hey
And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, was hard to find
Oh well, whatever, never mind
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial, a denial
A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial

First swing song I heard in full in 1994. Bought a Benny Goodman: Sing, Sing, Sing cassette. Wore it out, had to buy another one.

Yes, the swing era really began in 1935!
@jkmerriwether9919
Bunny Berigan, literally the herald of the swing age...and rock and roll to come....

Greetings from the Ohio Porters. 🇺🇸 Many years ago in college, a friend played this song for me. He thought since my last name was Porter that I would appreciate the song. I had never heard of it before then. I thought it was radical! 🥰 A young man can learn lots from an older man. I’m glad that he rubbed off on me. Didn’t this have some lyrics? Gotta find them. Thanks!!🥰🤩✌️

If I could time travel the first place to go would be the corner of 3rd and Vermont. 1935. The Benny Goodman orchestras opening night at the Palomar Ballroom.
@borisswall6699
Yeah that would be a good one. : )
@bvwatcher2
It don't get much better than this.

What a fine opening recording if you want to enjoy an American swing session!
