Benny always did a brilliant set up that invited you into the joke.

Benny hizo reír al mundo, y por eso podemos estar agradecidos

I remember this on Benny Hill's 'Ernie' LP that was released in 1971 but that was slightly different. I assume he must have re-recorded it for the record. Always a favourite.

He would've been 40 here! Benny was lucky that he always had a baby face and didn't really age. He always looked a lot younger than his contemporaries. He only started to age rapidly around the end of 1983 (with the recording of the first 1984 show in November 83) which also coincided with him no longer taking diet pills before production to keep him fit as they were damaging his body.

I always thought Benny was cute, he had those cute puffy cheeks. I also thought he was married. I love his expression faces he makes, lol.. He was a real comedian, just makes me giggle and laugh. They used to show him on BBC channel, sadly they don't anymore :( I always wonder if he was very nice/friendly in real life.

Sadly he proposed to 4 different women and was rejected by all of them. It broke his heart. This is of course also why you see the pattern in his shows where he always tries, but fails to get the girl in so many of his sketches, It was loosely based on his real life experiences.

According to all his cast mates and people who met him, he was always the perfect gentleman, kind and thoughtful towards others and would buy the castmembers children lots of presents, take them out on playdates and stuff. In fact every year for 2 weeks, he would spend time at co-star Sue Upton (the young blonde who normally plays the old lady Wondergran!) house and help her and her husband take care of her kids (who also appeared on the latter shows, the tiny blonde toddler and baseball cap boy). He wouldn't spend anything on himself though, he was happy with his couple of suits, basic clothing, his little flat he lived in and his couple of TV sets and VCR's he'd always have running taping all sorts of stuff to help spark ideas from.

To say he was shocked and heartbroken when he was unceremoniusly sacked in June 1989 is an understatement. He had just come back from a triumphant film festival, and his last show still rated top 10. The new boss at Thames tried saying that the shows cost too much and the ratings were falling, but those facts don't add up. The American Distributer of Benny's shows Don Taffner was very rightly pissed off that Thames did this to Benny, so he got into gear a new series of specials to be shot in various places around the world, the first of them being the 'World Tour: New York' show in 1991, sadly it was the only one completed, and Benny turned down a lifesaving heartbypass surgery in February 1992 after a heart attack, and sadly had a fatal attack in April of 1992 and died. He was obviously still sad about being sacked. His producer Dennis Kirkland said that in an instant that 'little naughty sparkle' in Benny's eye dissapeared and he was never the same happy go lucky man he was, almost like a frightened puppy looking over his shoulder waiting to be beaten my feminists and the PC brigade. :(

Awe, poor Benny. He had such a great sense of humor! I don't see why any girl wouldn't want him :( But even though he might have been lonely but he wasn't actually alone, he made a lot of friends by meeting people and had lots of great friends surrounded him. He was a great guy! x
