He was gifted with an innate musicality and fluid tenor voice which he colored and phrased with great expressivity. Moré was a master of all the genres of Cuban music, including son montuno, mambo, guaracha, guajira, cha cha cha, afro, canción, guaguancó, and bolero.
The eldest of eighteen children, Moré was born in Santa Isabel de las Lajas in the former province of Las Villas, in central Cuba. In 1936, at age seventeen, he left Las Lajas for Havana. His first breakthrough was winning a radio competition. He then joined Trío Matamoros (later known as Conjunto Matamoros), with which he remained several years, making a number of recordings.
In 1945 Moré went with Conjunto Matamoros to Mexico, where he performed in two of the most famous cabarets of the age, the Montparnasse and the Río Rosa. He made several recordings. Conjunto Matamoros returned to Havana, while Moré remained in Mexico, where he made several recordings for RCA Victor, together with the orchestra of Mariano Mercerón: "Me voy pal pueblo" y "Desdichado". He also recorded with Pérez Prado: "Bonito y sabroso", "Mucho corazón", "Pachito el ché", and "Ensalada de mambo". He also recorded "Dolor carabalí", which Moré considered his best composition recorded with Pérez Prado, and one he never wanted to re-record.
At the end of 1950, Moré returned to Cuba. He was a star in Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Brazil and Puerto Rico, but virtually unknown on the island. His first Cuban recording was "Bonito y Sabroso". Moré eventually decided to start his own orchestra, which he called Banda Gigante. In the years 1954 and 1955, Moré's group became immensely popular. In 1956 and 1957, it toured Venezuela, Jamaica, Haiti, Colombia, Panama, Mexico and the United States, where the group played at the Oscar ceremonies.
He died in 1963 at age 43 of cirrhosis. An estimated 100,000 fans attended his funeral.

Hoy es mi día
Voy a alegrar toda el alma mía
Me voy pa'l pueblo
Me voy pa'l pueblo
Hoy es mi día
Voy a alegrar toda el alma mía
Me voy pa'l pueblo
The lyrics to Beny Moré's song Me Voy Pal' Pueblo describe the desire of the singer to take a break from work and go back to his hometown to have some fun. He starts by saying that today is his day and that he plans to enjoy it fully. He wants to go to the town to uplift his spirits and cherishes the memories he has from living there. Despite working hard all day, he is never able to join in the fun, but today is different, and he is going to savor every moment of it.
However, he faces an obstacle in the form of a guajira (a country girl) who doesn't like to have fun and dance. So he leaves her to cook the corn in the farm and heads to the town to have a gallon of booze with his friends. The singer wants his wife to know that he has been working his whole life, and he doesn't want to bury himself in a corner. He loves the countryside and the farm, but he also wants to live life to the fullest by enjoying the town's pleasures.
The song's lyrics depict the struggle of the working-class people who work tirelessly every day without a break. They yearn for a moment to let their hair down and have some fun. The singer speaks to many people who can relate to not being able to enjoy life while balancing work, family, and responsibilities.

Me voy pa'l pueblo
I am leaving for the village
Hoy es mi día
Today is my day
Voy a alegrar toda el alma mía
I am going to cheer up my whole soul
Tanto como yo trabajo
As much as I work
Y nunca puedo irme al basilon
I can never go to party
I don't know what's up with this country girl
She doesn't like dancing and music
Ahora mismo la voy a dejar
Right now, I'm leaving her
En su bohío asando maíz
In her rural home, roasting corn
Me voy pa'l pueblo a tomarme un galón
I am going to the village to have a drink
Y cuando vuelva se acabo el carbon.
And when I come back, it's the end of the charcoal
Desde el día que nos casamos
Since the day we got married
Hasta la fecha trabajando estoy
I've been working until now
Quiero que sepas que no estoy dispuesta
I want you to know that I am not willing
A enterrar mi vida en un rincón
To bury my life in a corner
The countryside is nice, I already know that
But I'm heading to the village on foot
Si tu no vienes mejor es así
If you don't come, it's better that way
Pues yo no sera de mi
Because I'm not going to lose myself
