Please just tell me what the hell is wrong
Do you want to eat, do you want to sleep, do you want to drown?
Just settle down, settle down, settle down
I'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
Give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
I'll even let you watch the shows you want to see
I'm so sick of you tonight
You never stay awake when I get home
Is something wrong with me, something wrong with you?
I really wish I knew, wish I knew, wish I knew
I'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
I'll give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
I'll even let you watch the shows you want to see
Because you'll marry me, marry me, marry me
Marry me, marry me, marry me
I was young, I learned a game
When love and happiness were the same
Now I'm older and I don't play
I found out the hardest way
I got wasted, she got mad
Called me names and she called her dad
He got crazy and I did too
Wonder what I did to you?
I gave you candy, gave you diamonds, gave you pills
I'll give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
I even let you hear the songs I want to sing
I'll give you anything, anything, anything
Anything... anything
Beowulf's song "Anything" is a song that highlights the frustration and desperation of a man trying to save his relationship. The song starts with the man asking what is wrong with his partner, and trying to offer solutions like food, sleep or drowning, just to settle her down. He goes on to promise her candy, diamonds, pills, hundred dollar bills and even letting her watch shows she wants, as long as she agrees to marry him. The chorus repeats, calling out his desperation for her to marry him. The second verse goes on to talk about how he learned a game when he was young, and how the game has changed since he's older. He eventually got wasted, his partner got mad and called her dad who got crazy, and he wonders what he did wrong.
The song is a representation of the darker sides of love, the desperation, and how it can push people to do anything to save their relationship. It portrays the character’s desire to keep his loved one any way he can and giving up she won't marry him. The repetition of the chorus highlights the extent of his desperation and how it has almost consumed him.
