Time Heals Everything
Bernadette Peters Lyrics

Tuesday, Thursday
Time heals everything
April, August
If I'm patient the break will mend
And one fine morning the hurt will end
Autumn, winter
I'll forget you by
Next year, some year
Though it's hell that I'm going through
Some Tuesday, Thursday, April, August
Autumn, winter, next year, some year
Time heals everything, time heals everything
But loving you
Though it's hell that I'm going through
Some Tuesday, Thursday, April, August
Autumn, winter, next year, some year
Time heals everything, time heals everything
But loving you
The song “Time Heals Everything” by Bernadette Peters is a sad but hopeful ballad about the healing power of time in the aftermath of heartbreak. The lyrics convey a sense of emotional pain and longing, but also a sense of acceptance and resilience. The verses highlight specific moments in time – Tuesday, Thursday, April, August, autumn, winter – to emphasize the fact that healing is a gradual process that takes time. The chorus repeats the mantra that time heals everything, but adds the bitter truth that it cannot heal the pain of loving someone who is gone.
The lyrics imply that the singer has recently experienced a breakup and is struggling to cope with the pain and sadness. She hopes that by being patient and letting time pass, the hurt will eventually fade away. However, she also acknowledges that the healing process can be slow and agonizing. The use of specific dates and seasons adds to the sense of time passing, but also reflects the cyclical nature of life – just as the seasons change and time moves on, so too will the pain eventually lessen.
The final line of the chorus – “but loving you” – is a powerful admission that time may heal everything else, but it cannot heal the pain of a lost love. This line reinforces the idea that the singer is still deeply invested in the relationship and is struggling to let go. Overall, “Time Heals Everything” is a poignant and deeply relatable meditation on the complex emotions of heartbreak and the slow process of healing that follows.

I saw her perform this the month after her husband had unfortunately passed. There was a huge break before she started singing... It was truly heartbreaking yet so beautiful to be a part of it... It still makes me cry to this day.
BriscoSinger
Ryan Nolin I can only imagine that kind of pain and sorrow

@BriscoSinger Oh, didn't all our hearts just break for her during that horrible period in her life... She's just the best.

Thank you for sharing that beautiful moment. I am thinking of my precious husband, who died in 2018. Time will never heal that! 💔💔💔💔

I have been a huge fan of her for the past 40 some odd years; I, never ever knew that she ever was married. She must have married late in her life. This makes the song so very much more sad. 🤔

Just amazing. Have listened to this CD for years but actually seeing her perform it gave me goose-bumps. Out of this world performance. One of a kind.

The song is so simple, both lyrically and musically, but it works (one of Jerry Herman's best compositions easily) and with Bernadette delivering it, it is a marvel.
