Herrmann wrote the whole soundtrack in about a week but died before the movie was released. I think he was hugely influentual in the scoring of film, a legend.

This captures the pure despair and heartbreak of someone who subsequently has to go through the rat race daily process of living life leading close to a mental break down and finally ending back to where they once were before their hopes were put so high.

great soundtrack ! does a great job of capturing the essence of nyc in 70's. i was born in '71 and whenever i hear this it really does a great job of taking me back to a time when nyc was a completely different place. a place that only a true new yorker could appreciate and ultimately love.

Oh yes !!! So glad I picked up the one with the additional Dave Blume interpretations, the one to get. Tom Scott on sax YES!! And there's a glorious all too brief guitar solo who I think might be the mighty Charles 'Skip' Pitts on ' Taxi Driver Reprise', he of Isaac Hayes fame, Cafe Reggio and The Look Of Love etc etc etc.....you need this if you don't already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think in the ending of Taxi Driver I can hear some reflections of the beginning of his first score, Citizen Kane. Do you think that's intentional?
